Projects at the Johnson County Fairgrounds are either under construction or in the planning stages and coming together according to Gary Arno and Carla Harper with the Fairgrounds board, who gave an update to the county commissioners at their last meeting.
A new bathroom facility has been installed on the north side of the arena and will be in use during warmer months only, they said and will be winterized and closed down during the winter. Electricity and plumbing still need to be installed and a concrete slab will be poured there next spring to make the facility ADA-accessible.
New railings have been installed at the grandstand and new seating will be installed as well, with materials and equipment expected to be on-site this week. The project is expected to take three or four weeks to complete once started, weather permitting.
The kitchen project at the community building is in the grant-writing process and they will keep pushing that project to get funded and completed as soon as possible.
Finally, they discussed the fencing project at the fairgrounds.
Commission Chair Smokey Wildeman said “everything looks good” with the projects.
