With springtime comes mountain runoff of rivers, creeks and streams. The folks at Sheridan County Emergency Management have been stockpiling sandbags in the storehouse in the event that waterways in this region go over their banks.
Monday morning, twenty-five heavy bundles arrived at the City of Sheridan Shop. Emergency Management Coordinator for the County, Dave Coleman, explains.
Coleman says that the Big Horn Mountains are about 108% of normal as of the latest water report from the National Weather Service.
As for filling the bags, there's a big pile of sand at the ready, but of the several thousand bags now available, Coleman indicates that just a small percentage have already been filled.
The bags can hold about thirty pounds of sand.
Because these sandbags came from the Wyoming Office of Homeland Security, there is no cost to the City nor the County.
