The driver of a car involved in a one vehicle accident last spring has been charged with aggravated homicide by vehicle. 23-year-old Jerald Roberts was arraigned in 4th Judicial District Court this week. Roberts pled not-guilty to the homicide charge.
On April 20th, 2009, Roberts and Christopher Fletcher were driving in Roberts' 2007 Chevy Impala when they failed to negotiate the turn on the Interstate 90 on-ramp near K-mart. The vehicle left the roadway and rolled, ejecting both men. Fletcher was pronounced dead at the scene and Roberts was transported to Sheridan Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Blood samples were taken from both men and the results showed they both had blood alcohol content levels more than 3 times the legal limit.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol Crash team reconstructed the incident and determined that Roberts was allegedly driving the vehicle at the time.
Roberts’ trial has been set for May 12th, 2010. If convicted, Roberts could receive up to 20 years in prison.
