Johnson County, along with a number of other interested parties will be investigating maintenance and upkeep on Snider Ditch to maintain water rights and interests for any future endeavors involving the ditch and adjacent properties.
The county commission heard an update from Commissioner John Gibbs at last week's meeting, where he explained the preliminary plan for the ditch.
Gibbs said the King Trust owns 60% of the water rights in the ditch, the county has 27% and the remaining percentage is divided among minor property owners along the ditch, which runs from North Ridge Subdivision to the fairgrounds and out to the King Trust Property.
The commissioners decided the upkeep on the ditch would be in the county's best interest to maintain the water rights for possible use or trade in future development.
County Attorney Ken DeCock will review the plan and look into Mr. Myers representing the county in negotiations.
