CHEYENNE, (AP) - A massive e-mail campaign intended to persuade state lawmakers to vote for a bill that would have allowed Wyoming residents to carry handguns concealed on their bodies without a permit apparently backfired.
House Bill 113 died Friday when it failed to get out of the Senate Judiciary Committee. The House had approved it 42-15 on Monday. Senator Tony Ross from Cheyenne, is Senate Judiciary Committee chairman and co-sponsor of the bill. Ross says he didn't schedule the bill for a hearing in his committee because he didn't have the votes to pass it.
Some lawmakers including Senate President John Hines, a Gillette Republican, said they received more than 1,000 e-mails, many of them identical, urging them to support the bill.
