The Occupy Sheridan movement had a comparatively strong showing at Grinnell Plaza over the weekend, with at least six participants picketing the downtown area.
A part of the larger, national effort, this movement seeks to bring light to national issues regarding corporate practices. Mel Logan, activist for Occupy Sheridan, said they have no formal leadership positions within the organization, but that doesn't stop a small, constant stream of concerned citizens from taking their platforms public.
Logan said the ongoing protests, which are staged at various locations around town, exist to open a dialog about the state of the nation and economy, and hopefully make small steps toward greater public involvement with governmental processes. Logan said this is sometimes better achieved on a one-on-one basis.
