Organizers are hoping this will become an annual event, and after Saturday's first ever Buffalo Going Green Day, they are calling it a success.
Co-organizer Rachel McCaughey, from the Buffalo Chamber of Commerce, said the day was fun and well attended.
Activities included demonstrations on how to trim, plant and care for trees, how and what to recycle along with cardboard, metals, plastics and many other recyclable materials collected at the event.
The day started with a street chalk drawing from 9 to 10am and featured Sheridan Media's Oldies 105.9 logo in the middle of the bridge on Main Street downtown.
The day wrapped up with the “Recycle Ball,” featuring music by Gary Small and the Coyote Brothers, and more recyclable materials were gathered there.
McCaughey said she was pleased with the turnout, considering the little amount of time they had to organize. Next year with a year's worth of planning, it should be an even bigger event, she said.
