The Buffalo Swim Club will be presenting the first of what is hoped to be an annual triathlon for kids 15 and under this Saturday at the Johnson County Family YMCA in Buffalo.
The triathlon, for kids 9 and under, will consist of a 200-yard swim, biking 2.2 miles and a one-mile run. For kids 10 to 15, it will be a 400-yard swim, biking 4.4 miles and a two-mile run.
Tim Cahhal, with the Buffalo Swim Club, is the organizer of the event.
He tells us how the idea for the triathlon came about.
Cahhal said this first year he doesn't expect to make a lot of money from the event, but in the future it may turn into a good fundraiser for the swim club.
The ultimate goal, he said, is to help fund coaching for a summer swim club. They have a huge club in the winter months, but would like to see another during the summer, and coaching fees are the major expense.
Nearly 30 athletes have already signed up, and more are expected, Cahhal said, and entries will be accepted up to race time at 9am Saturday morning, but be sure to be there early enough to sign up.
Entry fees are $20 for individuals or $30 for teams.
