At their meeting Tuesday night the Buffalo City Council opted to not renew the contract for City/County Engineer Wayne Hill.
The original contract, between the city, Johnson County and the Town of Kaycee, had the city and county splitting the cost of the engineer 50/50 during the last year, which was a trial run for the position.
The county had opted out of the contract at their last meeting and had formally informed the city of their intent, which left the city to take on the full amount of his $98,300 yearly budget, terminate the agreement altogether or find another solution.
Mayor Randy Dyess explains that it was solely a budgetary problem.
Dyess also said there may be an opportunity to re-evaluate the position during the budget session.
Wayne Hill said he was pleased to get the opportunity and will “move forward.”
Hill's last day will be during the first week of April.
