At their Tuesday meeting, the Buffalo City Council awarded the contract to construct the sports fields complex to O'Dell Construction of Sheridan.
At the bid opening last week, all four bids came in substantially over the original engineer's estimate of $2 million.
City Planner Zach Montgomery explains why the bids came in higher than the original estimate.
Montgomery said when a project is fast-tracked, the contractor must hire more workers, normally work significant overtime to get the project done at a specified time.
He explains further.
Montgomery said the city will offer a deduct change order to O'Dell Construction, and if they accept it and it gets the project under the $2.1 million threshold approved by the council, the project will be awarded to them and it move forward into the constuction phase.
