The Buffalo City Council approved at their meeting Monday night, a Resolution authorizing grant applications for a proposed sports complex to be located at the old Centennial Park Baseball Fields, new basketball courts, pool chemicals for the municipal pool, and a slide and swing set.
Resolution No. 1319 will allow the mayor and City Council to file four grant applications with the Johnson County Recreation District for the improvements. Buffalo City Planner Zach Montgomery explains.
The Council discussed issues brought up by Councilman Bruce Hepp regarding a proposed well to be drilled on the property and the lack of a finalized plan for the project. Mayor Randy Dyess responded.
Councilman Russ Humphrey asked where the money would come from to build and maintain the sports complex, saying people were tired of taxes. He said there are other priorities such as streets and infrastructure that the money should be used for first, before building the sports complex. Councilmen Bill Hawley and Stan Lakin gave a different view.
After the discussions, the Council voted to approve the Resolution, with Humphrey the lone dissenting vote.
