Acting Buffalo Police Chief Jason Carder told the Buffalo City Council at last week's meeting that the department had completed deer harvesting for this year, saying officers had harvested 61 animals and had none test positive for Chronic Wasting Disease.
Carder also said the meat will be delivered to the Bread of Life Food Pantry for distribution in the following days.
Wyoming Game and Fish Game Warden Jim Seeman tells us more about the program, how it came about and why.
Officers harvest the deer on the outskirts of town where there are lower populations of people, and the areas are well-marked when the harvesting is happening in the area.
The program has been implemented in other states with success, and in the State of Wyoming has been tried in Buffalo, Sheridan, Sundance, and now Cody.
The deer harvesting program, it seems, will continue in most of these areas at least for the near future.
