The Sheridan Police Department released the following information this afternoon via a media release:
Just after 6:00 am Tuesday morning, the Sheridan Police Department received a report from railroad dispatch that there had been an incident involving a train and a pedestrian.
Upon investigation, it was discovered that a male subject, 61 years of age, had been struck and killed by a train between 1st Street and the N. Sheridan overpass in Sheridan while walking down the tracks. Initial information revealed that the subject failed to respond when the train blew its warning horn several times.
The name of the subject is pending upon notification of family members by the Sheridan County Coroner’s Office.
Investigation into the matter is continuing.
Original Story: BNSF Railroad has confirmed a person was killed by a train in Sheridan this morning.
Public information officer, Gus Melonas, provides details.
Melonas said the train originated in Pasco, Washington and was destined for Lincoln, Nebraska. The accident occurred at a non-crossing just east of 1st Street.
