The Big Horn National Forest says that early winter weather conditions have allowed for some snowmobile use before the general motorized-use season begins on November 15th; however, the forest service wants to remind hunters of guidelines that still must be followed.
Snowmobiles should travel on a minimum of six inches of snow, and any soil disturbance or destroyed vegetation will result in a citation, according to a media release from the forest service.
Area-wide Provisions S1-S5 that have been made date-specific must be followed, detailing areas with unique motorized restrictions. These are specified on the Bighorn National Forest Visitors Map.
Finally, snowmobile users can use last year's 2010-11 sticker until this year's are made available, but stickers must be posted on snowmobiles at all times.
Maps, snowmobile use rules, along with hunting information can all be found by stopping into a local U.S. Forest Service office.
