Senator John Barrasso, one of two doctors in the Senate, says health insurance reform can be achieved without the massive overhaul being proposed. The Wyoming Republican was part of a GOP town hall yesterday with members of Louisiana's congressional delegation. He cited measures such as tort reform, getting rid of unnecessary medical procedures to give doctors extra cover -- and curbing waste, fraud and abuse in government-run programs like Medicare.
Barrasso told the hundreds gathered in suburban New Orleans that there's already too much government spending, too many government takeovers and "we have to stop it." Barrasso said health care is a personal thing that will affect everyone, no matter what happens legislatively, and that he believes people are attending forums around the country in large numbers "because we're trying to protect our freedoms."
