In just a few weeks, after serving a year's deployment in Kuwait, members of the Wyoming Army National Guard's 2-300th Field Artillery Batallion, known as the Powder River Cowboys, will be returning stateside. Sheridan Media's Mary Jo Johnson has part one in a series on the wives waiting on the homefront.
Janelle also stays close to her computer so that she can communicate online via Skype or Facebook with Eli. And Eli was able to come home on leave in February -- the couple got to spend Valentine's Day together.
Chanda Olson became engaged to Specialist John Stanley at the end of last summer when he was home on emergency leave. They met through a mutual friend. She also occupies her time while John's away.
No date has been set, yet, for Chanda's and John's wedding, but she's considering late summer or early fall. John's next deployment will be sometime in 2012.
And Cory Ekis is married to Sergeant Lawrence Ekis, who is on his third deployment. They met after he returned from his second deployment. Cory tells us about a special send-off gift -- their son, Logan.
Logan and Cory's pre-school-age daughter have kept her quite busy during Sgt. Ekis' deployment.
Tomorrow we'll talk further with these young wives about the community support for the 2-300th.
