It's time for the annual Sheridan VA Medical Center Creative Arts Competition, and the call is out to any active inpatient, clinic or outpatient veteran to submit and application and entry. Spokesperson Tami Decker, who is the Recreation Assistant at the VA, explains.
Along with the visual art entries, the veterans are also able to submit entries in the performing arts -- dance, drama, instrumental and vocal music -- as well as creative writing and poetry. Decker tells us what is at the heart of why this event is held every year.
All the VA hospitals in the nation hold these contests, and the top three winners of each go to Regionals and then hopefully on to Nationals. Each year, the National winners' works are compiled into a book.
If you are a veteran and would like to submit an application and entry, call Tami at (307) 672-3473, Ext. 3270 or Kelly at Ext. 3265. The deadline is February 26th at 1 pm.
The public viewing of the exhibits and prize winners for the Sheridan VA's veterans will be held on March 3rd in the VA Auditorium, Building 61.
