He says there are no places in Johnson County—including lake DeSmet where anglers are allowed to use live minnows. In Sheridan County, there are three places where using live minnows is allowed:
Mischke adds that dead minnows are allowed region wide; it is live minnows that cause problems.
If an angler is caught illegally transporting minnows across state lines or using live minnows in any but the three locations in Sheridan County where they are permitted, they can face fines up to $1,000 and 6 months in jail.
