If a local developer can get the approval of the planning commission and eventually the city council, more affordable housing in Buffalo may be on the horizon.
Buffalo City Planner Zach Montgomery said he has had recent discussions with Jason Beckner, owner and developer at Buffalo Ridge Subdivision about possible changes to his agreement with the city.
He will be asking for a re-subdivison and re-zoning of a portion of lots along Watkins Avenue in the subdivision.
Montgomery explains the developer's idea.
By making the lots smaller and the homes smaller, the costs to the home-buyer go down as well.
Montgomery said Beckner is hopeful he can fill a niche in the market, help families in Buffalo and sell some of his properties in the process.
Montgomery said the proposal makes sense and would be good for Buffalo.
The request will be submitted to the planning commission at their next meeting October 25, and will go before the city council as a Resolution at their meeting November 1 if approved by the planning commission.
