The State of Wyoming Abandoned Mine Lands division is in the middle of a project to rehabilitate the Kleenburn Recreation Area near Acme. Part of the project will force the closure of the Acme highway for a while. The AML is going to finish their working on sealing the old Kearney Mine. Sheridan County Engineer Ken Muller explains what that will entail.
The work will prevent the road from sinking as the old mineshafts shift and collapse. The Acme road is expected to open by the beginning next week. In the meantime, traffic will be diverted to Kleenburn Road until the work is complete.
