Students that misbehave in Sheridan County School District 2 and are suspended or expelled do not get to stay home, however. For the past three years those students must attend the ACE program. ACE stands for Accountability, Change and Education. District Superintendent Craig Dougherty says the program is showing very positive results.
The District Board of Trustees approved a contract with Volunteers of America to keep the program going again this year. There is a cost associated with ACE, and that will mean the District must pay nearly $18,000 per month for the service. This is the same amount charged for the 2008-2009 school year. The District is already realizing a large savings by providing student transportation to the program and housing the ACE Center in the old Highland Park School building.
