Begun about six years ago, the Pink Flamingo has grown into one of the most anticipated social fundraising events of the year. Proceeds from the Pink Flamingo go to Family Planning of the Big Horns, which uses the money to educate women on reproductive health and the importance of getting pap smears to detect cervical cancer and mammograms to detect breast cancer.
Amy Albrecht (all-bright) is with Family Planning and is one of the Flamingo's organizers. New this year, she says.
The theme for this women-only event is "The 1980's", and Albrecht encourages participants to dress pink.
And there will of course be a costume contest, with the winner receiving the coveted traveling Pink Flamingo trophy, which is a -- you guessed it -- pink flamingo.
Tickets this year are $40 per person and can be purchased at Cottonwood Shop, The Daily Grind, and Big Horn Mountain Sports, as well as at the door, "if you're lucky."
Ladies are also invited to go to Hair West to get a pink stripe in their hair for $15. That money, too, will go to the fundraising efforts.
