An organization that helps build schoolhouses and provide running water to rural communities in Nicaragua will hold a fundraiser this weekend in Sheridan. Project Schoolhouse's Tab Barker tells us about their Sod Farm Reunion.
Barker and project schoolhouse finished a two room 1,000 square foot school just last week in Nicaragua. The school has running water that also supplies 18 rural homes in the area. It is the first project they have completed that supplies an entire community with water, Barker said, and it is the most complete project in terms of their goals of supplying communities with education, hygiene, community development, and health. Money raised on Saturday will go to support future schoolhouse construction projects in the area.
The fundraiser is this Saturday at the Barker house past the Sod Farm on Big Goose Creek Road down County Road 91. Tickets can be purchased for $20 in advance at the WYO Theater, and they can also be purchased at the gate. Volunteers are needed for the event, and those interested in volunteering can call Stephanie Poppe with ServeWyoming at 674-6446 ext. 4205.
