The “Hand in Hand” Early Childhood Education center building is currently under construction at the corner of Custer and Brundage Streets. Sheridan Economic and Educational Development Authority Joint Powers Board Chairman Tom Sachse asked the City of Sheridan to itemize all the City fees that have been waived for the project. They will be listed as City contributions in reports to the Wyoming Business Council. Cold temperatures and snow have slowed the construction work and the contractor expects to pour the slab on grade, for the foundation, in mid-February. KWN Executive Vice President Brian Bolton says they haven’t had to stop work completely. Keeping the ground thawed is becoming more difficult the colder it gets. It also slows compaction of the material that will support the foundation. The Board also approved a change to the construction project that would allow infrastructure work for a back-up generator to service the building. Other than that, the project is on budget. The actual generator and installation are estimated to cost over $20,000. Some future issues such as compliance with fire code and any future weather delays could cause minor overruns into the thousands of dollars. Despite the delays and possible added work, the building is still scheduled for an August 31st completion date.
