Laramie Doesn't Deserve It!

Playing all 5 State Championship football games in Laramie does nothing more than create additional revenue for Laramie and the University of Wyoming at the expense of 10 other communities.
Sheridan County has lost out on the opportunity to host a championship game 2 years in a row - Sheridan 2009 and Big Horn 2010.
Sure it is about the players, but playing in a State Championship game in your own community is an exciting opportunity as well. What about the community members who have supported the teams through winning and losing? What about the younger generation of fans (Broncs or Rams) who don't get to see a championship game because it is being played in Laramie?
Both Sheridan and Big Horn have beautiful new fields that should be used during the season and throughout the post-season as long as the teams continue to win.
And really, is playing in a stadium that hosts a 2 - 9 team really that exciting? I don't think alot of young kids aspire to be a Wyoming Cowboy! The Wyoming Cowboys currently have 110 players on their roster and 14 are from Wyoming. What a JOKE!

Sportsmanship is about fair

Sportsmanship is about fair play and a neutral field is fair to all teams. If your team is really that good that they are the number 1 seed, it shouldn't matter where they play. But from what I'm seeing from these posts, it's the convenience for the family/fans and having an advantage over other teams that people are wanting their team to play on their home field. In other words, politics. Isn't there enough of that in the world (and our area)?

Also, how exciting it is for all the semi finalists to get to play at War Memorial Stadium! Honestly, what if one of our local teams played and won on another team's field for the state championship (or vice versa). The win, although celebrated, would mean more to the players in the big stadium. My daughter loved playing in the Casper Event Center. That was several years ago and she still talks about it every now & then. Great memories!

No clue!

First off, if you look at the sponsor banners around Sheridan's field, only a few would actually benefit from a Championship game. But, do these food joints and motels contact the schools to get a list of events so they can contact those schools coming in to offer their services to them???? Between Sheridan, TR, BH and Normative there are school buses in town every weekend. So there is plenty of opportuntity for economic gain if they chose.
Second, a Championship game should be played on a level and neutral site. How is it fair if 2 #1's are playing and one team has to go to the other's field. They both earned the right by being a #1 seed.
Third, is I believe the WHSAA is putting the games up for bid this year, so here is Sheridan's chance to put up or shut up.
Fourth, War Memorial is the best football stadium in the state bar none. It has the jumbo tron, which the kids really enjoy, they get their face put on it, they have first class locker rooms, can warm up in the IPF and plenty of seating and room for more than one radio station. It's set up for televising the games.
Last, if you are really a fan and your team is involved, you would go watch the game no matter where it is played. For the kids, it is the game but also the experience they get to enjoy.

State Football

Sheridan County has lost out on additional revenue for the past 2 years - last year Sheridan earned the right to host, and this year Big Horn did.

Both Sheridan and Big Horn have beautiful new fields that should be played on throughout the season and post-season if the team has earned that advantage.
And really - what is the thrill of playing in a stadium that is home to a 2-9 football team? There are currently 110 players on the UW roster and 14 are from Wyoming. What a joke.

Obviously you must be from UTAH! and have no clue about how deep the love runs in Wyoming for the Cowboys! You are a JOKE!

please change my what ever from I hear voices to SAY WHAT! hope you can do this for thanks.

iT'S FOR THE KIDZ!

I think this is a great idea! I never got to play in a state title game but I did get to play in the Shrine Bowl at War Memorial. What a thrill to take the field at the place you dreamed about growing up! Keep the game in Laramie. Allow the kids there chance to dream that they are a WYOMING COWBOY FOR A DAY!

Keep it in Laramie!

As people said earlier, this isn't about mom, dad or grandma. It is about the kids playing the game. The hotels and restaurants get 2 weeks of benefits in the quarters and semi's. All Championship games should be played on neutral fields. The only poll WHSAA should do is ask the players and it's be a 90-95% approval of playing at War Memorial.

No More Laramie

Speaking From personal experience, the number 1 team should host the championship game. Home field atvantage is a big deal. Theres nothing like winning the big game at home, and on the other hand being able to beat the home team for the title on there own field is amazing. Having the championship at home for the number 1 seed also gives the town its heald in an economic boast as well

State Football Games

I agree with csfoster. It's about the kids - all kids, not just the local teams. What a thrill to play in War Memorial Stadium!

I still feel that home field

I still feel that home field advantage is a good thing to have and if you have earned that right as a team then you should be able to play in front of your fans and family. I would be curious to know attendance numbers of people attending war memorial stadium 5 hours away compared to Natrona being 2 hours or even being in Sheridan where more people would attend. My personal experience I wouldn't drive that. That's why I will be enjoying the game on the Internet again this year, 2 hours away I could handle and show support to our local athletes! Go Sheridan make us proud again this year!!

not always earned

The reason the game needs to be on a neutral field is because not every team EARNS the home field. An example would be the Cokeville/Lusk game this year. Both teams are undefeated and number 1 seeds, so who gets the home field? This same thing happened to Buffalo a couple years ago and they had to go to Jackson, a field that not capable of handling the crowd or the game.
What if Sheridan had to go to Evanston for a Championship game, which i believe happened in the '90's..that makes that 4 hour trip to Laramie pretty harmless.
Long story short, both teams earned the right to play in a championship game, go to a neutral site and settle it!

Ball game?

Where on the internet will the game be? I can't get to Laramie but I would like to watch it.

The WHSAA does not allow

The WHSAA does not allow live video webcasts from the championship games in Laramie. Sheridan Media is providing audio-only webcasts of these games.

Thank you.

Thank you for the link. Sad ending for 3 local schools.

P.S.-Rumor has it that Trevor Jackson watches some show called "Glee". :)

I want home court advantage. I see your point, the person above this, but I can't go to Laramie. I'd love to see our Rams play. I'm just feeling sorry for myself that I won't be there to cheer them on.

State football championships

Ask the football players. This is not about convenience for parents or monetary gain for hotels and restaurants. It's is about the players. Both last year and this last week they have been so excited to play at War Memorial. Most of these boys will never play college football and this is their only opportunity to play in a university stadium. They were on cloud nine last year when they walked the field and then realized they got to use the Cowboys' locker room. This is about the entire championship experience; let the football players have their big day in Laramie.
