National Anthem by Max Marquis

Sheridan High School Junior Max Marquis led off Saturday's game between the Lady Broncs and the Lady Bison from Cheyenne South with the playing of the National Anthem. Max blew into his alto saxophone and blew the audience away with the quality of his playing. His performance was extremely well received by all including the three referees who "bumped fists" with Max at the conclusion of the anthem. Then Max headed into the stands where he and his proud Father Dave shook hands as his Mother Sandy looked on. During the game that followed I overheard a couple talking about Max's performance saying that it was only the second time they had heard a flawless instrumental playing of the National Anthem at an indoor SHS sporting event - the other being violinist Wynton Grant in 2011. Max is an All-State Band and All- State Jazz Band selectee and on the national stage he was a member of the Wyoming High School All State Marching Band in the 2011 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade. Next up on the national stage Max will be performing in the 2012 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. On the local level the multi-talented Max was among the musical performers at Christmas Stroll Night in Historic Downtown Sheridan and played the role of Mercutio in the Sheridan High School's Drama Club presentation of "Romeo & Juliet."
