115 hearty souls plunged into Lake DeSmet, including Nancy and Clint Spence of Sheridan, in the 25th Annual Polar Bear Plunge at Lake DeSmet at 1:00 pm, Sunday, January 1st. Nancy and Clint live in Sheridan but Clint works in Anchorage, Alaska and he thought the water was cold even by Alaska standards. Organizers made a couple last minute changes. The location was moved from Monument to just off Lake DeSmet Road east of the Lake Stop Resort and rather than running into open water the plungers jumped into a large rectangular hole cut into the 6-inch thick ice.
