J.J. Butler is Top Bronc Rider @ Don King Days

Posted in

Under what renown rodeo announcer, Jim Thompson called "Glorious Weather" Monday afternoon, Wyoming Cowboy J.J. Butler followed up his first bronc ride of 71 with this one for a 72 to win the 23rd Don King Days Bronc Riding Title. The Bronc Riding this year was done the "old timey way" - the bronc was brought onto the field unsaddled, the rider then brought out the saddle and flank strap that was put on the blindfolded bronc between two pick-up men on horses, then the rider climbed on behind one of the pick-up men and transferred over onto the bronc. Once the rider was set the blindfold was supposed to have been removed but as you can see in the photo, action ensued before the blindfold was removed. Scroll down for more of this ride and his first.
