Full Wolf Moon

Full Wolf Moon is the name of the first full moon of 2012. Full moon names date back to Native Americans of a few hundred years ago. Tribes kept track of the changing seasons by giving distinctive names to each recurring full moon. Amid the cold and deep snows of mid-winter, the wolf packs howled hungrily outside Indian villages - thus the name Full Wolf Moon. January's full moon was also known as the Old Moon or the Moon after Yule. In some tribes, this was the Full Snow Moon, but most applied that name to next month's moon - The Full Snow Moon. This full moon photo was taken at 6:24 pm January 9th. For more of the Full Moon names visit: http://www.space.com/14164-2012-...
