Biggest Gun In Town

The M198 towed 155mm howitzer may be going out-of-service but it definitely comes in-to-view as you drive past the Wyoming National Guard U. S. Army Reserve Center and Armory at 3219 Coffeen Avenue in Sheridan. Since entered into service by the United States Army and Marine Corps in 1979, over 1,600 units have been placed into operation. Weighing in at 8-tons it is now being replaced by a 5.5-ton M777 howitzer which the 3rd Battalion, 11th Marines began using in May 2005. Did I mention that from where it sits at the Armory it could hit Ranchester as the maximum effective range is 18.64 miles? For more on the M198 see: http://olive-drab.com/idphoto/id... and for more on the M777 see: http://www.marines.com/operating...
