Fred H. Adsit                 Age 78 of Sheridan, WY
Died Sunday, May 14, 2000, in the V.A. Medical Center, Sheridan
Born October 2, 1921, in Kirby, MT
Parents - Charles & Gustavia (Carlson) Adsit
   He grew up in Kirby, MT.  Fred moved to Big Horn, WY, in 1935.  He worked on ranches until enlisting in the Army during W.W.II.  He served with the Army Engineers in the New Guinea, Dutch New Guinea and Salamua Campaigns.  After the war, he returned to Wyoming and married Marie Sipe on October 16, 1946, in Hardin, MT.  They lived in Moorcroft, WY, where he worked in the oil fields until they moved back to Big Horn.  Fred worked for the Wyoming Game and Fish Dept. at the Bird Farm for 35 years until he retired in 1986.  They moved into Sheridan in 1997.  He was a member of the Big Horn Fire Dept. and Big Horn Lions Club for many years.  Fred enjoyed hunting, fishing, pinochle and spoiling his grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, brother Howard and sisters Dorothy Davis and Helen Collins.

Doris P. Alexander of Sheridan passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2001 at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County at the age of 83.
    Mrs. Alexander was born on January 14, 1917, in Littleton, Colorado, to Amy Estelle (Stookey) and William Frederick Pettow. As a child she attended schools in Littleton and graduated from Littleton High School. In 1935 she was united in marriage to Chester C. Alexander in Littleton, Colorado. Together they had two sons, Donald and Gary Alexander. After Chester's death in 1958 Doris retured to school and graduated from Colorado State College wiht a degree in teaching. She was employed as a libraian for School District Number 6 in Colorago for twenty years. Doris enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening and watching the Denver Broncos. She moved to Sheridan from Greeley, Colorado in October of 1997.
    Preceding her in death were her husband, Chester; her son, Gary and three sisters, Eloise, Irma and Neva.
    She is survived be her son Don Alexander and his wife Lori of Sheridan.

Gary L. Amende, 31, of  Eugene, Oregon formerly of Sheridan, passed away Monday, September 18, 2000 in Bozeman, Montana. Memorial Services will be 2pm Friday, September 22, 2000 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. joseph Keys officiating. Kane Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Everett “Ed” Asbury  Age 86 of Sheridan, WY
Died Thursday, August 31, 2000, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County
Born December 18, 1913, in Pueblo, Colorado
Parents - Edward & Theodosia Asbury

    The family moved to Kansas and he graduated high school in Hoisington, Kansas.  Ed graduated from the College of Mines in Kansas and worked for Kennecott Copper Corp. for many years as a mine executive.  He retired in 1973.  He was instrumental in laying communication cable across Oregon.  He married Emma Lu Hatfield on August 28, 1973, in Gillette, WY, and they came to Sheridan in 1974.  They traveled extensively in Texas, Florida and all through the south.  He was a member of Elks Lodge #520.

Preceded in death by three brothers.

Ray R. Bantle                   Age 96 of Sheridan, WY
Died February 29, 2000, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County
Born February 20, 1904, in LaCrosse, WI
Parents - John & Lena (Yager) Bantle
    He moved to Sheridan when he was sixteen years old.  He married Julia Kutcher on July 3, 1946, in Sheridan and spent his remaining years with her and their many friends here.  Ray was the Sheridan County Airport manager for 30 years and known by all for his dedication to the community.  Julia died in 1993.  Ray enjoyed golf, fishing and helping others to learn the sport.  He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, AARP and a life member of Elks Lodge #520.

Clifford Allen Barbee  Age 68 of Sheridan, WY
Died Thursday, July 20, 2000, at his Sheridan home
Born May 5, 1932, in Gladewater, Texas
Parents - Harry & Flossie (McClintock) Barbee

    He was raised in Prague, Oklahoma, where he graduated from high school in 1950.  He was an honor student and an excellent basketball player.  The love of hunting and fishing learned as a young boy continued through adulthood and he especially loved doing both in the Big Horn Mountains.  He attended Chillichothe Business College in Missouri and in 1951 began his career with Mountain Bell as a repeater man in the toll test department at Casper, WY.  He married Ethel Gale on August 27, 1953, in Rawlins, WY.  In 1955, he was transferred to Sheridan.  He was drafted into the Army in 1955 serving until 1957 when he returned to his job in Sheridan.  He worked as a central office technician until 1976.  He was promoted and assigned to manage the central office in the Newcastle, WY, area until 1983 when he returned to Sheridan and was assistant manager of network switching.  He retired on April 1, 1987, with 36 years of service.  He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers.

Preceded in death by three infant children, his parents, and his sister Jeanette Bartemy.

Betty Jane Becker          Age 73 of Sheridan, WY
Died Thursday, November 16, 2000, in her Sheridan home
Born May 13, 1927, in Lemmon South Dakota
Parents - Lester & Blanche (Southworth) Davis

    Betty grew up and graduated from high school in Rapid City, South Dakota. Graduated from South Dakota State with a degree in Home Economics. She married Donald Becker on October 28, 1950, in Rapid City. They lived in several places before moving to Worland, WY, in 1960. She worked as an assistant dietician in South Dakota and for the schools in Worland. They moved to Sheridan in February of this year. She was very active in the United Methodist Church and P.E.O. Chapter AA in Worland. Betty was always caring for her friends and family.

Marie Obras Benegalia, 99, of Sheridan passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2000 at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan Co. She was born January 23, 1901 in Essen, Germany. marie was the youngest of ten children; eight brothers, and one sister. Marie arrived in America from Germany in December 1922.
    In January 1923 she married Martin Benegalia in Sheridan. They lived in Dutch Creek and later moved to Sheridan. She and Martin owned the Dutch Lunch and the Beeline Restaurants in Sheridan. Marie provided home cooked meals for jail house prisoners for 27 years.
    She enjoyed cooking, domestic work, was extremely diligent in her work ethic, and thoroughly enjoyed evening car rides to view the sunsets and catch glimpses of wildlife. She was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church and the Slovene Society. She was a great lady and special grandmother. We miss her.
    She is survived by three grandchildren, Martin Benegalia of Granbury, Texas, Toni Wall of Slocum, Texas and Nell Benegalia of Houston, Texas; three great grandchildren, Rex Wall of Slocum, Texas, Sara Wall of Houston, Texas and Matthew Benegalia of Granbury, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, martin in 1975 and her son, Fred M. Benegalia of Sheridan in 1998.
    Funeral services will be held at 10am Tuesday, September 26, 2000 at Kane Funeral Home with Deacon Joe Kristufek officiating. Interment will follow in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.

Donald "Dick" Gene Betcher passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2000 at the VA Medical Center, at the age of 57.

Dick was born on November 15, 1942, in Gregory, South Dakota, to Alfred and Frieda Hauf Betcher. He was raised in South Dakota on various farms and ranches. After attending high school in Custer, South Dakota, he moved to Wyoming with his family to follow construction jobs. On December 1, 1962, he was united in marriage to Barbara Sabotka. He served his country during the Vietnam War from November 1966 ot 1968. Dick returned to the Sheridan area where he worked for Metz  Beverage until 1977. From 1977 until 1983, he owned the Montana Club at Decker, Montana.

Dick enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Big Horn Mountains with his son, brothers and nephews. He enjoyed taking his 2 grandchildren camping and fishing in the mountains and Lake DeSmet. He was a member of Local #400 American legion and the Elks Lodge.
Preceding him in death were his mother and brothers, David and Larry Betcher.

Survivors include his wife Barbara, his son Bryan and wife Kathy of Sheridan, 2 grandchildren Kory and Makinzy of Big Horn, his father Alfred of Buffalo, brothers Ken, Roger and Dennis Betcher, sister Marlene Donoho all of Sheridan and several nieces and nephews who all loved him very much and he enjoyed them all. He was a wonderful family man and will be missed by all who knew him. "Dick, God bless you and rest in peace. We love you."

Bernece E. Bilyeu  Age 92 of Sheridan, WY
Died Sunday, November 5, 2000, in Wyoming Medical Center, Casper, WY
Born February 29, 1908, on the family homestead east of Sheridan
Parents - Charles “Tode” & Ella (Mirrett) Bard

    Her mother died when she was 13 years old and she took on the task of helping her father with the homestead and raising her three younger brothers.  She married Clinton Bilyeu on July 2, 1927, in Billings, MT.  They lived in Sheridan several years and then lived in S. Dakota and Colorado before returning to retire in Sheridan.  After retiring, she enjoyed organizing the dinners for the retired railroad workers.  She loved cooking big meals for her family as well as working in her garden and with her flowers.  Bernece was well known for her knitting and crocheting.  She spent all the time she could with her family in the Big Horn Mtns. hunting and fishing.  Mr. Bilyeu died in 1992 with them having been married for 65 years.  Bernece was a member of First Baptist Church. Being born on Feb. 29th, leap year, she always joked about being younger than her grandkids.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers Warren, Allen and Don.

VIRGINIA B. BOHM
1917  -  2000

    Virginia B. Bohm, age 83 of Sheridan, WY, died Wednesday, August 23, 2000, in Westview Health Care Center, Sheridan.
Memorial service will be 1:00pm on Saturday from St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev.’s David Duprey and Ray Clark officiating.  Interment of cremains will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.  Arrangements are with Ferries Funeral Home.

    Virginia was born on March 14, 1917, at Ericson, Nebraska, the oldest daughter of Kenneth W. and Susie B. (McCain) VanHorn.  She grew up on the family farms and ranches in Nebraska and S. Dakota.  Virginia attended her first year of high school at Wheeler County High School in Bartlett, Nebraska.  She completed high school at Bennett County High School in Martin, S. Dakota.  Virginia married Carl W. Hicks and they had two sons William and Wayne.  She attended Chadron State College in Nebraska receiving her teaching certificate and then taught one year in a country school.  Virginia returned to Chadron State College after the death of her husband, Carl, in 1958, and received her degree in education.  She went on to teach on year in Rapid City, S. Dakota.  She moved to Sheridan and taught seventeen years in the third grade in Highland Park Elementary School.  Virginia married Willis J. Bohm in 1966 and became the step-mother of his two sons William and Tom.  They enjoyed a happy marriage until Willis died in a drowning accident on Lake DeSmet in 1984.  Virginia was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Friends of the Library, Hospital Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Retired Teachers Assn. and a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star.  She enjoyed raising flowers and visiting with her close circle of friends on the phone.  She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

    Virginia is survived by her sister Jean Henkens of Chadron, Nebraska; two sons William (Bill) Hicks & wife Karen of Gering, Nebraska and Wayne Hicks & wife Susan of Wheatland, Wyoming; two step-sons Bill Bohm & wife Suzanne of Sheridan and Tom Bohm & wife Julie of Billings, Montana; grandchildren Mark Hicks, Martin Hicks & wife Tanda, Craig Hicks & wife Sherri, Brad Hicks & wife Robyn, Todd Hicks & wife Amee, Eric, Cari, Loni, Tara, Bryon and Jason Bohm; great grandchildren Lindsey Winkelman, Madison, Ryley, Regyn, Cooper, Coby Hicks.

WILLIAM R. BOSWORTH, JR.
1943  -  2000

    William Robert Bosworth, Jr., age 57 of Story, WY, died Saturday, July 15, 2000, at his home.
Cremation has taken place and family memorial services will be at a later date.  Arrangements are with Ferries Funeral Home.

    Bill was born on March 27, 1943, in Grand Rapids, Michigan to William R. ,Sr. & Mary Alice (Cronheim) Bosworth.  He grew up and graduated high school in Grandville, MI.  He graduated from Grand Valley University in Michigan.  Bill married Linda Prins in 1967 in Grand Rapids.  He worked as an executive in the auto industry until 1995 when they moved to Story.  He purchased and operated Presto Print in Sheridan, WY, until the present time.  Bill enjoyed fly fishing and hiking.

    He is survived by his wife Linda, son William R. Bosworth, III and his wife Lisa of Salt Lake City, UT, daughter Sara Kristin Lythgoe and her husband Clint of Glenrock, WY, two sisters Susan Bukrey and her husband Jim of Coopersville, MI, and Kelly Stokes and her husband Michael of Sheridan, Michigan, and one granddaughter Lacey Jo Lythgoe; also dear friends Georgina & Tom Ringley of Sheridan, WY.

Edith M. Brokaw, 76, of Sheridan passed away Sunday, September 10, 2000 at Sheridan Manor. She was born December 19, 1923 in Buffalo, Wyoming to Harry and Ruby Nard Kershner. She graduated from high school in Buffalo in 1941 and Sheridan Memorial Nursing School in 1945.
    On August 16, 1947 she married Clarence Brokaw at the First Baptist Church in Sheridan. She worked at Memorial Hospital, VA Hospital, Schunk Clinic, and Eventide Nursing Home as a nurse. Edith enjoyed reading, crocheting, gardening, cooking, and putting on family dinners.
    She was a member of Sheridan District Nurses Assoc., First Baptist Church, and had been a Brownie Scout Leader.
    Edith is survived by daughter, Connie and husband, John Krezelok of Banner; son, David Sr. and wife, Debra Brokaw of El Paso, Texas; two sisters, Ruth Hansen of Buffalo and Eva Shosten of Sheridan; seven grandchildren, Becky Jo Krezelok, George Thomas Brokaw and Sarah, Davis Allen Brokaw Jr. and Vicki, Thomas Allen Brokaw and Brenda, Dwayne Douglas Smith and Brandy, Crystal Gale-Louise Smith, and Christine Patience Brokaw, seven great grandchildren, Cody Allen Brokaw, Brooke Anna nd Taylor Rene Brokaw, Lance Thomas and Marcus Allen Brokaw, and Jeremy Douglas and Seth Michael Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence in 1995; two brothers, Howard and Olie Kershner; and two sisters, Ida Bell Hepp and Midget Frenchy.
    Visitation will be from 6 to 8pm Wednesday, September 13, 2000 at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10am Thursday, September 14, 2000 at Kane Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Nelson and Rev. Chuck Gifford officiating. Interment will follow in the Elks Cemetery.

Weston W. Bryant                Age 81 of Sheridan, WY
Died Sunday, April 9, 2000, in Westview Health Care Center, Sheridan
Born November 15, 1918, in Linn Creek, Missouri
Parents - Whitley & Malinda (Stanton) Bryant

As a young boy he came to the family homestead near Hulett, WY, and later moved to Upton, WY, where he graduated from high school.  He attended Black Hills State College.  Wes married Opal Kaiser in 1939 in Lusk, WY.  They lived in Upton and he hauled Bentonite.  They had two daughters and were later divorced.  He moved to Colorado and worked construction.   Wes married Mary Zelatel in 1950.  Later they moved to Greybull, WY, where he owned and operated a trucking company for hauling Bentonite.  He moved to Sheridan in the late 1950’s and worked as a crane operator for N.A. Nelson & Husman Construction traveling to many construction sites.  About 1970, he went to work in the coal mine at Coal Strip, Montana.  In 1975, he began working for Decker Coal as a crane operator until he retired in 1983.  He enjoyed traveling and was a member of the Good Sams Club.  He was an avid sports fan especially enjoying football.  Wes spent many hours riding his four wheeler, fishing, going on picnics and spending time in the mountains.   He took pleasure in training his Border Collie mix dogs and loved being with his grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his sister and five brothers.

He grew up and attended schools in the Sheridan area and Lander, WY.  He lived at the State Training facility in Lander until returning to Sheridan in the late 1980’s.  John worked for RENEW for several years.  He enjoyed fishing and his good friends.

Norman Edward Callier, 71, passed away on Monday July 24, 2000 at Fargo North Dakota. There will be an open viewing on Tuesday August 1, 2000 and on Wednesday August 2, 2000, until 9:30am, at Kane Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10am on Wednesday August 2, 2000 at the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. A memorial mass will follow at Holy Name Catholic Church. John Roy Campros of Sheridan, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at his home, at the age of 60.

John was born March 9, 1940, in Great Falls, Montana, to Onin and Ann Brown Leland. He grew up on a ranch near Stanford Montana. On May 22, 1975, he was united in marriage to Waynette England in Salmon, Idaho. The couple lived in Missoula, Montana for 22 years and then moved to Sheridan. John enjoyed taking his jeep to the mountains, hunting and fishing. Other interests include mega horsepower with dual everything. He was a member of the World Wide Church of God.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a son.

Survivors include his wife Waynette of Sheridan; his daughters, Kathy Holt and Jacquie Kemper, a son, John A. Campros; a brother, Andrew Campros; a sister, Kay Dry; and two grandchildren.

Ira Lee "Ike" Carroll  Age 77 of Ranchester, WY

Died Monday, February 5, 2001, in his Ranchester home
Born April 17, 1923, at Bonner's Ferry, Idaho, to Grandville W. & Alta (Wallace) Carroll

    The family moved to Sheridan shortly after he was born and he grew up and graduated high school in Sheridan.  He served in the SeaBees during WWII overseas, first in the Aleutians and then in the Marianna's in the Pacific.  After the war, he attended Farragut College in Idaho and
the University of Wyoming.  Ike married Shirley Logan in 1950 in Billings, Montana.  He retired from Carroll Land Company (the business he founded) in 1988.  Ike was active in several fraternal and civic organizations.  He was especially pleased to have served as a trustee of
Sheridan College during their first building phase on the present campus.  He was a strong supporter of the 4-H program and served as a leader for many years.

Fred Z. Chase  Age 82 of Sheridan, WY

Died Monday, November 6, 2000, in the V.A. Medical Center, Sheridan
Born April 30, 1918, in Sheridan to Percy & Anna (Hoffman) Chase

Fred grew up and graduated high school in Sheridan where he played saxophone in the band and played music all his life.  He graduated from Aviation Technician school in Cheyenne, WY, and was among the first technicians to work at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, UT.  He worked in Ogden until going into the Air Force during WWII.  After the service, he returned to Ogden to work for the government and later transferred to San Bernadino, CA, for several years.  Fred was transferred to Japan for a few years and then returned to work in Kansas, Georgia and Ohio where he retired.  After retiring, he moved to California for a few years until returning to Sheridan in the early 1970’s.  Fred married Mary Wright in 1978 in New Hampshire.  They lived in Sheridan and Mary died in 1983.  In June, 1984, he married Charlotte Dickinson in Glenrock, WY.  They lived in Sheridan.  Fred played saxophone in bands wherever he lived.  In Sheridan he played in several band including the Collegians and the Thunder Mountain Band.  Fred also enjoyed playing golf at every opportunity.  He was a member of Elks Lodge #520.    He was preceded in death by his father, step father Jesse Ekis and one brother, Edward.

Margaret Jean Christler, was born March 14, 1929 in Buffalo, Wyoming to Frank and Margaret 'Margie' Lawrence. Jean died suddenly on Friday November 17, 2000 at her home in Big Horn at the age of 71. Memorial servies will be held at a later date.
    Jean grew up in Buffalo and attended school there. After high school, she went to work in Los Alamos New Mexico at  the atomic bomb facility. She also worked as a telephone operator. She married John M. Christler in june of 1947. They made their home in buffalo where they owned and operated a Ma and Pa grocery store. Later, Jean worked at the Johnson County Hospital as a LPN and after that at  the VA Hospital in Sheridan. For many years they owned and operated an out patient home for veterans and also some elderly people.
    Many will remember Jean as the very giving, smiling, gusty gal who lived from a wheel chair the last few years of her life. She was a member of the Congregational Church, Eastern Star, and the Daughters of the Nile.
    Shewas preceded in death be her mother, father, husband John on 1992, and son Mike in 1997, also preceding her in death was another son Stephen, a daughter Sonya, and two brothers: Ray Lawrence and wife James Keith "Sweed" Lawrence.
    She is survived by a brother Buck Lawrence and wife Jan, two sisters, Fay Waugh and husband Carl, May Dillinger and husband Jim, sister-in-law Mary Lawrence, daughter-in-law Ruby Christler. Grandchildren John Michael III and wife Emily, Shawn, Courtney, and Ryan, and one great grandson.

Betty Clabaugh, 70, of Kingman, Arizona formerly of Big Horn, passed away Friday, September 15, 2000 in Kingman. She was born January 13, 1930 to Tony and Martha Woodsmall Norskog in Sheridan. Mrs. Clabaugh was a homemaker and had worked at several businesses in Sheridan and Big Horn.
    Mrs. Clabaugh is survived by her husband Donald to who she was married to for 53 years, three sons, Bruce of Littleton, Colorado, Rick of Green River, Wyoming and Rob of Big Horn; sister, Dixie Bahr of Sheridan; brother John of Kingman, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Darlene; one brother, Jim and one grandson.
    Graveside services will be 11am Friday, September 22, 2000 in the Elks Cemetery with Rev. Ray Clark officiating. Kane Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Margaret Clase          Age 95 of Sheridan, WY
Died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, in Westview Health Care Center, Sheridan
Born September 18, 1904, in Bergen, Norway
Parents - Karl & Berta (Olstater) Namtvedt

She grew up and attended schools in Norway.  She came to America in 1924 and worked as a waitress in New York City until she married Arvid A. Clase on January 1, 1941, in Brooklyn, NY.  They moved to Sheridan in 1964.  Mr. Clase died in 1969.  She enjoyed being a housewife as well as sewing, fishing, and gardening.

Preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
Survived by several cousins including Kenneth Namtvedt of Sheridan.

RODNEY C. CLEMENS
1950  -  2000

On Sunday, June 4, 2000, God called Rodney Clemens home and released him of all earthly suffering.

Viewing will be from 9:00am until 6:00pm on Wednesday (June 7th) at Ferries Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be 10:00am on Thursday from Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. William Heine officiating.  Interment in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.

Rod was born on March 28, 1950, in Jamestown, N. Dakota to William & Agnes (Glowach) Clemens.  He grew up and attended schools in Jamestown.  He married Judy Kohoutek on July 14, 1967, in Seattle, WA.  They lived in Jamestown and he worked for his father.  They moved to Sheridan in 1971 and he worked for the BNSF Railroad.  Rod enjoyed spending time with his family and camping in the mountains.  He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Rod was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Kenneth.

Rod is survived by his wife Judy of Sheridan, son Rodney Paul Clemens & wife Tricia of Scottsdale, AZ, daughter Kimberly Jean Harnish & husband William of Sheridan, two brothers William and Terry Clemens of Sheridan, sister Carolyn Miemietz of Jamestown, ND, grandchildren Brittany Jean and Shallon Renae Harnish.

Kenneth L. Cornell, 66, of Sheridan passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2000 at the Sheridan VA Medical Center.
    Memorial services will be held Thursday, August 31, 2000 at 7pm at the Church of Christ on Big Horn Avenue with Charlie Spray, minister, officiating. Graveside services will be conducted by the American Legion, Tuesday, September 5, 2000 at 3pm at Mount Hope Cemetery in Springview, Nebraska. memorials may be made to the Elks Youth Scholarship Fund in Sheridan or Ainsworth, Nebraska in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, PO Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.
    Kenneth LeRoy was born August 3, 1934 on a farm near Mills, Nebraska to Ella Williams and Warren Cornell. His father, sister, LuEllen McConnell, older brothers, Emmitt and Lawrence (Pistol) and younger brother, Dick, all preceded him in death. His mother Ella Cornell Hamilton resides at Parkside Manor in Stuart, Nebraska.
    Kenneth is survived by his daughter, Vonnie Biggins and husband Rick, and grandchildren Heather and Jonathan. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Arlene Cornell Sheldon of Kearney, Nebraska, Chris Cornell and children, Kendra and Bradley of Newport, Nebraska as well as other nephews, nieces, and many dear friends of many years.
    Kenneth was a 1952 graduate of Keya Paha County High School with a certificate to teach rural school for one year. However, at a dance that August with several classmates, they all decided to join the Armed Services. After basic training at Parks Air Force Base in California, he was assigned to Nellis AFB, Las Vegas, nevada as an administrative clerk. The F-100 pilots started training at Nellis and Kenneth was assigned to them as supply specialist in charge of spare parts for each engine. This team became the Thunderbirds.
    The next assignment took him to Morocco for a year in he capacity of supply sergeant. The Camp Crook Army base was renamed Van Den Berg AFB in Lompac, California so Kenneth was assigned the laborious task of processing all the paper work for the renaming processes.
    While on leave at home before going to Germany, he saw a former classmate and dating friends and reestablished that relationship. At the finish of the Germany assignment, Kenneth and Tillie Lowe were married and moved back to California. Kenneth adopted Tillie's daughter, Vonnie at the time. The family then moved to Hawaii during which time Kenneth became tech sergeant to help support problems in Asia. Kenneth served two tours of duty in Vietnam. Kenneth chose to retire from military service after 20 years and was preparing to be discharged when he was diagnosed with lupus...thus obtaining a medical discharge.
    Kenneth and family returned to Offut AFB in Omaha, Nebraska for his discharge and stayed in Nebraska because of family business. Kenneth, Tillie and friends used retirement to tour and vacation on their Kawaski 750 bikes until his health degenerated. After months of hospitalization in Grand Island, Omaha, and Kearney VA hospitals, he lost the use of his legs and lost his marriage. However, the spirit of survivorship prevailed and he did walk on crutches after the doctors assured him he would live in a wheelchair. He set up housekeeping in Ainsworth, Nebraska where he met a blonde, blue eyed freckled Wyoming nurse. Kenneth Cornell and Phyllis Geier, formerly of Sheridan, were united in marriage in Sheridan, February 15, 1997, where the two of them established residency.
    Kenneth was a lifetime member of Sergeant's Association, VFW, and a 50 year member of the Elks Lodge in Ainsworth, Nebraska. Kenneth and Phyllis enjoyed fishing together and using their motorhome and even managed to take one more trip to the Texas coast in February of this year.
 



Rose K. Crane  Age 92 of Sheridan, WY
Died Wednesday, August 16, 2000, in Sheridan Manor
Born September 21, 1907, in Dietz, WY
Parents - Edward & Agatha (Precnal) Kumor

    She grew up and attended schools in the Sheridan area.  She attended business college in Rapid City, SD.  Rose married Ray Stewart in Colo. Spgs. in Sept., 1930.  She worked at the V.A. Medical Center for 39 years as a secretary until she retired in 1965.  Ray died in 1969.  She married Lawrence Garretson in August, 1972.  He died soon after.  Rose married John Crane in 1985 in Buffalo, WY.  They later divorced.  She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, Eagles Lodge Auxiliary and Moose Lodge Auxiliary.  She enjoyed telling jokes to her friends.

Also preceded in death by her brother Raymond Kumor and two sisters Mary Laya and Julia Wolfe.

John Craig         Age 81 of Sheridan, WY
Died Saturday, September 30, 2000, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County
Born October 27, 1918, in Napoleon, North Dakota
Parents - James & Isabella (Frank) Craig

    He grew up and attended schools in Napoleon. He moved to Long Beach, Ca, during WWII and worked for the Navy in the Naval Shipyard. John married Cleo Parsons on August 16, 1939, in California. Later after the war, he went to work for the Air Force at Edwards Air Force Base in California until he retired. After retirement, they moved to Kalispell, MT, to be nearer family. He enjoyed gardening, lapidary, reading. He loved historical exploration and had a large collection of artifacts. John was a man with a king heart and a great sense of humor.

Maxine Mural Diefenderfer, longtime Sheridan area resident, passed away at her home, at the age of 72.

Mrs. Diefenderfer was born on January 7, 1928, to Grover Cleveland and Irma (Patefield) McAlister, in Billings, Montana. On November 9, 1946, she was united in marriage to Robert I. Diefenderfer Jr. Maxine was a special person who enjoyed time with family, gardening and animals. Her kitchen was the heart of her home with much of her time spent baking chocolate chip cookies for family and friends to share. She was an avid fan of horse competitions and was secretary of the Big Horn Mountain Horse Show for more than twenty years.

Preceding her in death were her parents.

Survivors include her husband Robert of Sheridan; her children Robert L. of Sheridan, David of South Dakota, Michael of Greenwood Village, CO, Daniel of Sheridan, Sandy Koltiska of Sheridan, Steve of Laurel, MT, Tracy of Billings, MT, Tyler of Buffalo, WY, and Kim Shackelford of Sheridan; 15 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be held at the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery at 12:30 P.M. on Wednesday, May 3, 2000, with memorial services to follow at 1:30 P.M. at the family home, 18 Circle 8 Drive, Sheridan, with Pastor Charles Lucas officiating. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

She grew up and graduated high school in Sheridan.  She received her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse from Casper College, Casper, WY.  Dottie worked as a nurse for the hospital, nursing homes and doctors in Casper until she retired.  She returned to Sheridan in 1990.  She enjoyed gardening and traveling to see her sons.

G.Lyle Dunsdon, 89, of Sheridan passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2000 at Westview Health Care Center. He was born on June 14, 1911 in Tabor, Iowa to George Thomas and Una McCoy Dunsdon.
    Lyle attended Shady Grove elementary school near Tabor, Iowa. On March 4, 1936 he married Velma Winslow in Red Oak, Iowa. in 1946, they moved from Iowa to Dayton, Wyoming. They resided in Dayton for ten  years then moved to Ranchester and built a home.
    Lyle worked for VC Johnston Lumber Co. for 25 years and he was a volunteer with Ranchester Fire Dept. Later, he worked for Peter Kewit for two years. He enjoyed leather work, woodworking, and gardening. In the last two years they sold their home in Ranchester and moved to Sugarland Ridge in Sheridan.
    He is survived by his wife, Velma; daughter, Lyla Stout of Sheridan; brother, Donny Dunsdon of Tabor, Iowa; two sisters, Vivian Dyke of Tabor, Iowa and Dola Grigg of Camdenton, Missouri; three grandchildren, Dorcus Palone of Gillette, Roin Stout of Sheridan, and Jodene Prusak of Sheridan; six great grandchildren, Russel and Gwen Stout of Sheridan, Rodina Caugherty of Astorua, South Dakota, Rehia Palone of Gillette, and Matthew and Laurel Prusak of Sheridan; and three great great grandchildren, John and Jeff Caugherty and Elizabeth Palone.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Kenny Dunsdon, and a granddaughter, Anita Stout.
    Memorial Services will be 2pm Thursday, August 24, 2000 at Kane Funeral Home with Father David Duprey officiating. Interment will follow at the Wesley Chapel Cemetery near Henderson, Iowa at a later date.

    Gary's father was a professional golfer and the family lived in Gillette, WY, Lead, South Dakota, and Casper. Gary was in the first graduating class of Kelly Walsh High School in Casper. He won the first golf championship at Kelly Waldh. Gary turned professional in 1969 working in Colorado, Arizonia, Calofornia and last working at Tomahawk Country Club in Deadwood, South Dakota, until leaving due to health problems. He worked in Sheridan for several years and returned to Casper four years ago.

Clinton W. Eubank
1901  -  2000

        Clinton William Eubank died Sunday, June 11, 2000.
        Clint was born in Sheridan, Wyoming, June 18, 1901, in a frame house on the corner of Burkitt and Coffeen.  He attended Linden School and graduated from Sheridan High School.  He remembered the town of Sheridan from the days of unpaved Main Street, the buildings from their first construction and the inhabitants by name and personality.
      Clint was the only son of Minnie Thurmond and Dick Eubank.  The grandson of John Dudley Thurmond, a Sheridan benefactor.  He delighted in the telling of how Bill Gollings made him a bow and arrow and as a child being hoisted up to ride with William Cody.
      He had an open and inquisitive nature and being somewhat of a rebel he learned to play drums from a black horse soldier stationed at Fort McKenzie.  In those years, professional musicians were not held in high regard, yet Clint played a trap set at the opening of Lodore Supper Club in Story.  He played wherever he could find a gig in those depression years.  Most of the ranches, towns and cities throughout Wyoming and parts of all the bordering states were familiar to Clint and he could remember each in detail.  Before talkies he played in the “pit” at the Lotus and Orpheum theaters in Sheridan.  He played on a cruise ship to China, high school proms and he knew such greats as Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa and in Denver where a trombonist named Glenn Miller was a college stand-in.
      When he married Bertha Brown in 1930, his adaptability and unusual degree of loyalty to family and friends found him playing in local gigs, teaching drums, and teaching himself how to master the intricacies of a metal lathe and gunsmithing.  This combination of skills led to a career as an experimental machinist at the China Lake Naval Weapons Center and an expert in small arms and their repair.
      Clint retired to Onyx, California in 1965.  In 1991, he moved to Story.  He suffered a congestive heart attack in 1994 and later moved into Sheridan in 1997.  Until his heart attack he played local gigs when he was over ninety years old.
      Clint maintained his memberships in local and national clubs and organizations including NRA, Masonic Lodge #43, Kalif Temple, York Rite, Eagles, Eastern Star and St. Peter's Episcopal Church.  He was a 50 year member in most of these organizations.
      Clint is survived by Bertha, his wife of 70 years, a daughter Barbara Cloyd Hurst and son-in-law Thomas Kooi Hurst.  Grandchildren Roger Preston Cloyd and Cheryl Cloyd Guth both of San Diego, California; great grandchildren Thomas P. Guth, Chase, Cole, and Carson P. Cloyd also of San Diego and daughter-in-law Helen Eubank of Onyx, California.  He was preceded in death by his son Richard.
      Memorial service will be 11:00am on Wednesday (June 14th) from St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Ray Clark officiating, assisted by Kevin Jones.
      Arrangements are with Ferries Funeral Home.

Leroy W. Evans, Dayton resident, passed away on Sunday December 10, 2000 at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County at the age of 81. Visitation will be from 7pm to 9pm on Wednesday December 13, 2000 at the Dayton Community Church. Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Thursday December 14, 2000 at the Dayton Community Church with Pastor Kevin McMahon officiating. Interment will follow in the Dayton Community Cemetery. George T. Felbeck Jr., 76, known to all as Ted, died at home in Story, WYoming on December 1, 2000, after a brief illness. Ted was born in Buffalo, New York on September 18, 1924. He graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1949 with a B.S. in chemistry and from Pennsylvania State University in 1957, with a Ph. D. in Soil Chemistry. He was a professor of Agronomy at the University of Delaware from 1958-1964 and held a similar position at the University of Rhode Island from 1964-1989. In 1993 Ted and his wife, Betty, retired to Story, Wyoming, in the foothills of the Big Horn Mountains.
    From 1943-1946, Ted served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and was stationed at Los Alamos, New Mexico, where he worked as a lab technician on the Manhattan Project, the massive U.S. atomic bomb project. After completing undergraduate work, Ted managed the family farm near Reading, Pennsylvania, from 1950-1953, at which time he decided to pursue an academic career.
    Most recently, Ted has worked with the Warren Rogers Associates of Newport, Rhode Island, serving as the scientific consultant in a nationwide effort to identify leaking underground gasoline storage tanks.
    Ted had many interests, including hiking in the Big Horns, hunting, fishing, flying small planes, reading voraciously, traveling and bird watching. His life list of birds topped the 500 and was still growing at the time of his death.Organizations in which Ted belonged to included the Lions Club, Story Community Church, the Nature Conservatory and the National Rifle Association.
    Ted is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, (Betty); three daughters, Kristina A. Felbeck of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jeanne F. Becker of Deerfield, Illinois, and Cynthia F. Chalou of Okemos, Michigan; two brothers, David K. Felbeck of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Richard B. Felbeck of Wernersville, Pennsylvania and six grandchildren.
    A memorial service will be held at the Story Community Church on Friday, December 8, 2000, at 2pm, in Story, Wyoming. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to either: the Nature Conservatory of Wyoming, 258 Main St., Suite 200, Lander, Wyoming, 82520; or the Story Community Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 415, Story, Wyoming, 82842.

Irene Jane Fowler, passed away at her home in Sheridan, Wyoming, at the age of 80.

She had been a resident of Sheridan County for over 30 years. Mrs. Fowler was born in Howard, South Dakota on October 17, 1919, the daughter of John and Francis Schmidt Hoss.

She was a graduate of St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Mitchell, South Dakota and became a stewardess during World War II for Northwest Airlines. She returned to school and obtained her nurse anesthetist degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, working for many years in Campbell County Hospital in Gillette, Wyoming and Sturgis Hospital, Sturgis, South Dakota.

Irene is survived by her daughters Kay Fowler of Omaha, Nebraska and Barbara and husband Michael Crilly of Sheridan, Wyoming. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Kimberly Crilly of Tempe, AZ and Scott Crilly of Laramie, WY and her sister, Pat Lehnert of Buffalo, WY and many nieces and nephews.

Zelda Marion Garr, 84, passed away Thursday, August 10, 2000 at Sheridan Manor in Sheridan, Wyoming. Services will be held at 10am on Tuesday, August 15, 2000 at Champion Funeral Home with Father Cliff Jacobson officiating. Interment will follow in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.     Zelda Garr was born on December 24, 1915 in Minnesota to Verner and Mary Bjontegard Hartley. on June 30, 1935 she married John Thomas Garr. To this union was born one daughter, julia Mary Garr Goodchild. Having spent most of her life in Montana, she relocated to Sheridan six years ago to be closer to her daughter, Julia. Zelda was known as an excellent seamstress, tailor, gardener, craftsman, whose works are still admired and respected to this day. Her greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
    She is survived by: three great-grandchildren: Specialist, Mike Kristy of Ft. Bragg, North Carolina; Thomas Goodchild and Kayla Goodchild of Littleton, Colorado; her four grandchildren; Andrew Goodchild of Casper, Wyoming; Laura Ward and husband, Jerad of North Bend, Washington; Charles Goodchild of Santa Barbara, California and William Goodchild and his wife, Kathy of Littleton, Colorado. Also surviving is her son-in-law, Mardy Goodchild and two sisters, Erma Brown of Fort Peck , Montana; Velma Reber of Helena, montana and one brother, Harland Hartley of Stevenson, Washington. Preceded in death by her daughter, Julia on July 18, 1995.

Virginia L. Gilbert, 77, passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2000 at Sheridan Manor.
    Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are with Champion Funeral Home. Memorials in memory of Mrs. Gilbert may be designated to the Sheridan Senior Citizen Center, in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, Wyoming 82801.
    Mrs. Gilbert was born on April 17, 1923 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Virgil Neil and Gladys Mabel Sredick Lee. She grew up in Jacksonville, Illinois. In 1939 she married Ralph Rankin in Jacksonville, Illinois. On March 17, 1940, two weeks before their daughter Patricia was born, Mr. Rankin died of injuries he received in an automobile accident. Virginia worked as a waitress in Jacksonville, raising her daughter. In 1943, she married James Hurst in Jacksonville, Illinois. They had two children and he preceded her in death. Virginia continued to work in food service in Jacksonville and Peoria, Illinois, raising her three children. In the early 1960's she moved to Sheridan. She worked for the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Sheridan as a dietitian until retiring in 1965. Virginia was a very talented and self sufficient person. She loved sewing, crafts, painting, macramé, crocheting , and gardening. Virginia could fix anything electrical, plumbing, and carpentry. She loved her home, her best friend and companion her dog "Bunny" and enjoyed her family. After retiring, Virginia was active with the Senior Citizens Center in Sheridan.
    She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters.
    Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Ellingson of Gold Beach, Oregon and Pam Montgomery of Powell, Wyoming, her son James Hurst of Kettering, Ohio, her brother Eugene Lee and Wife Vanda of Los Angeles, California, along with five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Leona A. Gillen age 87 of Sheridan, WY
Died Friday, July 14, 2000, in Westview Health Care Center, Sheridan
Born November 4, 1912 in Cheyenne, WY
Parents - Frank & Leona (Stuart) Bruner

    She grew up and graduated high school in Cheyenne.  She attended the University of Wyoming where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi.  In 1935, Leona was selected to be Miss Frontier for Cheyenne Frontier Days after having been Lady-in-Waiting the previous year.  During her reign, she met many celebrities of the day including Amelia Earhart and famed fan dancer Sally Rand.  Leona supported the Cheyenne Frontier Days the rest of her life -- even participating in the 100th anniversary celebration parade in 1997.  She married H.F. “Johnny” Gillen on June 9, 1939, in Cheyenne.  In 1948, they moved to Sheridan where they lived the rest of their lives.  Leona worked in MDU’s accounting dept. for 22 years.  She was instrumental in setting up a hot lunch program at Holy Name ; was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader; and served as a certified election official in nearly every election during the past three decades.  For the past 25 years she has been very active with reunions for the Civilian Conservation Corps.  Leona enjoyed cooking and was well known for her fudge, liked doing craft projects and enjoyed watching golf on TV.  The family secret can now be told: her favorite treat was a chocolate ice cream soda with pineapple syrup.

Preceded in death by her parents; brothers John, Bill and Joe Bruner and sister Enor Moxley; and her husband Johnny.

Darlene E. Gleason                Age 65 of Sheridan, WY

Passed away on Tuesday June 20, 2000 at the Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Darlene was born on September 17, 1934, in Sheridan, Wyoming to Clarence and Grace Mason Hayden. On July 21, 1952 she was united in marriage to James "Bud" Gleason. For many years she sold Avon Products and made many friends. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and camping with her family, however, her greatest joy was her grandchildren. She was a life time member of the First Christian Church.

Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, her infant daughter, three brothers, Gerald, Murray, and Warren; and two sisters, Margaret and Naomi.

Survivors include her sons, Douglas of Oregon City, Oregon; Dale and David both of Sheridan; her sister, Marie Good; her sisters - in - law JoAnn and Margaret McKinney of Sheridan; and eight grandchildren, Chauncie, Kyle, Kendra, Cory, Nathan, Noelle, Ryan, and Leighton.

Cremation has taken place and private family graveside services were held Saturday, June 24, 2000. Kane Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

Edward "Ned" Sitton Green, 69, died Sunday, October 8, 2000 at his residence in Sheridan, Wyoming of natural causes. Services will be held at 10am Thursday, October 12,2000 at Champion Funeral Home with Reverend Ken Burket officiating. Interment will follow in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Viewing is at Champion Funeral Home until funeral time on Thursday.
    Mr. Green was born March 24, 1931 in Stroner, Wyoming to William W. and Lucy Green. He lived in Moorcroft until 1941 when the family moved to the Sheridan area, eventually living in Dayton where Mr. Green attended school. Mr. Green married Dorothy Paulsen on December 20, 1959 in Sheridan. He worked on ranches and in construction as a heavy equipment until his retirement. He was a great handyman, always helping out family members with their projects. He enjoyed traveling, camping in the mountains, spending time with his family, and most of all, playing with hid grandchildren.
    He was proceeded in death by his parents and one sister. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Sheridan, his daughter Kathy Wirth of Billings, Montana; son Michael od Tucson, Arizona; sisters Patty Mock of Sheridan, Rojean Thompson of Wheatland, Alta Stockhill of Cody, Willie Bell of Garberville, California, Mary Lott of Bonne Terre, Missouri; brother Bob Green of Krebo, Oklahoma; and two grandchildren.

John Mason Gutz                 Age 75 of Sheridan, WY

Died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, in Sheridan Manor after an extended illness
Born July 9, 1924, in Selby, S. Dakota

The family moved to Casper, WY where John attended grade school and graduated from high school in 1942.  He attended the University of Wyoming until he was drafted in 1943.  During W.W.II, he served with the 13th Air Force in the Pacific theatre.  After his discharge in 1945, he returned to the University.  John married Barbara Williams on June 30, 1946, in Cheyenne, WY.  He graduated from the University of Wyoming with his BS degree in wildlife management in 1949.  He worked for the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission for 18 years as a Game Biologist and Game Warden.  As Game Warden, he was transferred to Sheridan in 1960.  He left the Game and Fish Dept. to enter the ranching business.  When the ranch operation was moved to Montana, with his son Mark as manager, John went to work as a hydrographer for the Wyoming State Engineer for several years until he retired.  He was a member of the First Congregational Church, Masonic Lodge #8, Scottish Rite and Kalif Shrine.  He was a charter member of the Kalif Buckskin Horse Patrol.  John enjoyed volunteer work at the VA, collecting artifacts, fishing, his family and the great outdoors.  He spent many hours helping youth in baseball, Boy Scouts and Demolay.

She grew up in Indiana and in Kansas City, MO.  She came to Moorcroft, Wyoming, in the 1940’s and then to Sheridan in the mid 1950’s.  Gladys worked at the Sheridan Center Motor Inn for many years.  She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed raising her plants.

Preceded in death by three brother and three sisters.

Born March 23, 1923, in Ellendale, N. Dakota
Parents - Roy & Bethel (Savey) Harm

    Milt grew up and graduated high school in Ellendale.  Married Maralyn Bowerman on December 19, 1942, in Aberdeen, SD.  He enlisted in the Army during W.W.II and served in Europe.  After the service, he returned to Ellendale where he trained for management in the C.R. Anthony clothing stores.  He managed stores in Tioga, ND, and Deadwood, SD, before coming to Sheridan in 1965.  He retired from the C.R. Anthony Co. in 1980.  Milt was always very active in civic organizations in the places he lived.  He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the VFW.

He was preceded in death by his son Fred Harm.

Ada B. Harris, age 82 of Sheridan, WY
Died Friday, August 4, 2000, in Westview Health Care Center, Sheridan
Born October 3, 1917, in Wayne County, Iowa
Parents - Albert and Effie (Leager) Gleason

    She grew up and graduated high school on Harlan, Iowa in 1935. She married Clare Jess Ellis on June 10, 1937, in buffalo, WY. They later divorced and in 1946 she married Earl Donnelly in Rapid City, SD. They later divorced and on September 5, 1953, she married Walter Harris in Sheridan. During her work years she worked as receptionist for Donnelley Trucking, Sheridan Press, Sheridan High School, and the YMCA. She also enjoyed working the concession stands at the baseball park and the rodeo fairgrounds for many years. She was a member of Sheridan Wesleyan Church, Elks Lodge, Eagles Lodge, and American Legion Auxiliaries. She enjoyed bowling, dancing, reading, and being involved in her church.

Preceded in death be her sister Goldie Bailey and four brothers Orval, Roy Gerald, and Oral Gleason.

Sylvanus Darvin Harrsch, 76, passed away December 15, 2000, in Orem, Utah. Born April 30, 1924, in Broadus, Montana, he was the oldest child of Earnest Afolph and Kathern Clark Harrsch.
    As a young buy, Van moved with his family to Sheridan, Wyoming where he attended grade school and eventually graduated from Sheridan High School.
    Van served in World War II as an Army Medic with the 82nd Airborne. He took part in six campaigns in Europe. He was briefly captured behind enemy lines in holland and was wounded at Anzio. His awards include the Bronze Star and the French Croix de Guerre.
    After the war, Van married Wilma Evelyn Drake of Sheridan and raised three children. A military family, they lived in various locations in teh United States and Germany before settling in Salt Lake City, Utah. There he retired from the Army and began his post military career as a hopital administrator with Holy Cross Hospital and the University of Utah.
    He is preceded in death by his wife Evelyn, son, Greg, and daughter, Mary Kay Thompason, as well as his parents and brother, Vernon Harrsch. He is survived by a daughter, Diane Ingersoll, Sheridan, a brother, LeRoy Long, Montpelier, Idaho,and four sisters; Jeann Hunsaker, Orem, Utah; Charlotte Gruing, Lava Hot Springs, Idaho; Patricia Abbott of Las Vegas, Nevada; Colleen Jensen, Montpelier, Idaho.

Larry M. Helton, 53, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2000 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Sheridan, Wyoming.
    Graveside services will be held at 2pm Friday, August 25, 2000 at the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with Reverend Doug Goodwin officiating. Full Military Honors will be provided by the Wyoming Army National Guard, the American Legion Post #7 ,a nd taps by Dan Burgess.
    Larry was born December 12, 1946 in Harve de Grace, maryland. He was raised and educated in Leavenworth, Kansas and graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1965. Following his graduation, Larry joined the U.S. Navy and served on the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk during the Viet Nam War. He served over three years in the Navy, and received the following military medals and ribbons during the service: the Navy unit Accmendation Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, the Viet Nam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, and the Republic of Viet Nam Campaign Medal. Military life was Larry's chosen career, but due to injuries he received on board the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk, he received his honorable discharge from the Navy and was a disabled American Veteran.
    Larry worked for a time for   Offshore, working on ships. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping in Yellowstone Park, was an amateur geologist, and a gun collector.
    Larry is survived by his parents, Joseph Jr. and Madeline (Engel) Orlowski of Leavenworth, KS; his sister Sharon R. Winkler of Leavenworth, KS; his only nephew, Brett L. Winkler; one great niece, Shyann R. Winkler along with two daughter and one son.

Margaret Hennebry  Age 89 of Sheridan, WY
Died Saturday, November 4, 2000, in Westview Health Care Center, Sheridan
Born August 23, 1911, in Deadwood, S. Dakota
Parents - George & Lila (Cook) Masonheimer

    She grew up and graduated from high school in Bridger, MT.  She worked as a clerk in the dry goods store.  She married Royal “Bing” Hennebry on April 5, 1930, in Roundup, MT.  During WWII, they lived in California and returned to Bridger after the war.  In 1953, they moved to Sheridan where she worked for Diamond Lumber Co. until she retired.  Mr. Hennebry died in 1994.  She enjoyed music and playing the organ.  Margaret was a very active member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.

She was preceded in death by two brother and one sister.

Patrick E. Wheeler - Holohan, 54, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2000 at his residence in Dayton, Wyoming following a courageous battle with cancer. Private family services will be held at a later date. The family requests that memorials be designated to NORD (The National Orginization for Rare Disorders) P.O. Box 8923, New Fairfield, CT. 06812.
    Patrick was born on September 5, 1946 in Paddington West England the son of Willian A. and Marjorie K. Thomson Wheeler-Holohan. He was raised and educated in England. He served in the British Army for seven years. In 1971, Patrick came to the United States and settled in Houston, Texas where he worked as a surveyor for numerous oil companies. While in Houston, Patrick started his own business, Exploration Geodesy, and on March 10, 1989 he became a United States Citizen. In the fall of 1997, Patrick moved to Dayton, Wyoming. On June 20, 1998, he was united in marriage to Susan Choat in Dayton. Following their marriage, the couple started their business "Four Pines of Dayton Bed and Breakfast." Patrick enjoyed spending time on the computer, but his greatest enjoyment was gardening.
    He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife Susan of Dayton, Wyoming, his daughter Kennie Choat Wheeler - Holohan of the family home in Dayton, and his sister Patricia Barnham of England. Arrangements are with Champion Funeral Home.

Edgar Leroy Holsinger,  86, of Sheridan passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2000 at Sheridan County Memorial Hospital. He was born on February 22, 1914 in Shickley, Nebraska to Elmer L. and Agnes Blanchard Holsinger.
    Eddie graduated from Chadron High School in 1932, and completed one year at Chadron College in chadron, Nebraska in 1933. On June 19, 1938 he married Peggy Lucille Barton in Sheridan, Wyoming and have resided in Sheridan for 63 years. He worked as a postal clerk, an assistant manager for Safeway, and owner of the Gospel Garden Bookstore for many years. Eddie enjoyed the civic theatre, scouting (attained the Silver Beaver Award), vocal singing, people, the Gideons, the gospel, and he was a member of the Red Grade School Board.
    He is survived by his wife, Peggy; two daughters, Dixie and husband, Tom Roberts of Salem, Oregon, and Carole and husband Ben Harris of Wilton, Connecticut; two grandchildren, Tamara Jean Poteet of Anchorage, Alaska and Todd Blair Roberts of Orem, Utah; and five great grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be 10am Wednesday, August 9, 2000 at Kane Funeral Home with Pastors Tony Forman and Tim Charles officiating. Interment will follow in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.

Arthur S. Houston   age 60 of Decker, Montana
Died Sunday, October 8, 2000 in the V.A. Medical Center, Sheridan, WY
Born March 4, 1940 in Newcastle, PA.
Parents- Dwight L. and Noreen (St. Clair) Houston

    He attended school in Newcastle, PA. and Enlisted in the Army at age 17. He received an Honorable discharge on February 26, 1962. He served in Vietnam. He worked as a cowboy and ranch hand on several ranches in Montana and Wyoming.

Ardes L. Van Houten, passed away Wednesday, October 18,2000 at Westview Health Care Center in Sheridan, Wyoming at the age of 84. Private graveside services will be held at the Elks Cemetery on Saturday, October 21, 2000 with Reverend Doug Goodwin officiating.
    Memorials in memory of Mrs. Van Houten may be designated to Westview Health Care Center for "Care Haven" in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, Wyoming 82801.
    Mrs. Van Houten was born on October 3, 1916 in Almeria, Nebraska, the daughter of William R. and Rebecca Brown. She was raised in Antioch, Nebraska and graduated from Antioch High School in May 1936. On November 22, 1937 she was united in marriage to Dan Orley Van Houten in Alliance, Nebraska. Mr. Van Houten was employed by Burlington Northern Railroad and they were transferred by the railroad to different locations during his employment. They lived in Alliance for many years, moved to Guernsey, Wyoming for 15 years, came to Sheridan in 1966 and was transferred back to Alliance in the 1970's. When Mr. Van Houten retired from the railroad in 1984, they moved to Sheridan. Mrs. Van Houten was a homemaker and her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family. She also enjoyed dancing and gardening.
    She was preceded in death by her husband Dan on October 2, 1988, four brothers, three sisters, and her parents. Survivors include her two daughters, Sharon Jensen of Boise, Idaho and Nancy Schaffer of Sheridan, Wyoming, her brother William Brown of Sheridan, Wyoming, four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
    Arrangements were with Champion Funeral Home.

Ole M. Hoveland       Age 87 of Sheridan, WY
Died Wednesday, October 11, 2000 in the VA Medical Center, Sheridan
Born - August 28, 1913, in Lidger wood, North Dakota
Parents - John and Gerhardina (Revne) Hoveland

    He grew up and attended schools in Havre, MT, well as two years of Teacher's College. Ole married Lillian Fjeldahl in Havre, MT, on July 9, 1938. He served in WWII in the Ski Troopers, 10th Mountain Division in Pizza, Italy, and was wounded in action. Prior to moving to Sheridan, he owned and operated Hoveland's Men's Store in Miles City, MT. The family moved to Sheridan in 1958 and he worked at Shadoan's Men's Store. He also formed and operated in three surrounding states the Friendly Welcome Service for newcomers. He enjoyed high school and college basketball and football. He was a member of Kiwanis, Masons, Shrine and Trinity Lutheran Church. Ole enjoyed golf, bowling and all sporting activities. His family was his greatest interest.

Preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Lillian; and a brother, Stan.

Freddie "Fritz" Huckfeldt, age 56, of Sheridan, WY, died December 13, 2000, at his Sheridan home after a lengthy battle with cancer. Fritz was born April 16, 1944, in Torrington, WY, to Sam and Georginia (Booth) Huckfeldt. As a young child he was raised on a farm in Veteran, WY. He attended schools in Veteran and Torringtron. He served in teh U.S. Navy from 1961-1965.While in the service Fritz married Nancy Debus on March 17, 1962. Receiving an Honorable Discharge from the Nacy, he returned to live in Torrington and Wheatland are until moving to Sheridan in 1978. Fritz was manager of Clouds Peak Farmers CO-OP. Fritz enjoyed his work as well as ranching, rodeo, fishing, golfing, camping, and spending time with family and friends. He was a lifetime member of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church and of Immanuel Luthern Church.
    Fritz is survived by his wife, Nancy; two daughters Deanna Mitchell and husband Lane of Casper, WY and Sheryle McKenzie and husband Rich of Sheridan, son Fred Jr. and companion Rachel Marty of Sheridan; five grandchildren April, Cody and Amber Mitchell, Gina and Jess McKenzie; one great grandson Dylan Mitchell; father Sam Huckfeldt and wife Ursula of Wheatland, one brother Bob Huckfeldt and wife Doroty of Newcastle, WY, one half brother Sammy Huckfeldt and wife Leslie of Wheatland; two step brothers John and Paul Huckfeldt of Wheatland, one step sister Christine Bauer of Yuma, AZ; friends adopted with love Joe and Sandy Pilch family of Sheridan and Steve, Shauna, Lindi and Kyle Veo of Parachute, CO, adn numerous other family members. Fritz was preceded in death by his mother Georgina Huckfeldt.
    Memorial Services will be 2pm on Monday (Dec. 18th) from Immanuel Luthern Church with the  Rev. William Heine officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Ferris Funeral Home.

Hazel M. Husman                 Age 81 of Sheridan, WY
Died Monday, April 17, 2000, in Sheridan Manor
Born May 9, 1912, on the OW Ranch of the Kendrick Cattle Co.
                        where her father was a forman.
Parents - John & Bessie (McConnell) Turner

She grew up on the ranch at Tullock Creek, attended area schools and then graduated from high school in Hardin, MT.  She met Albert Husman when he came with his father to build a stone barn on the ranch.  They were married on December 28, 1931 in Hardin.  They lived in Nevada and Washington where Albert worked on the Boulder and Grand Coulee Dams and then in Panama where he worked in the Canal Zone.  In 1946, they came to Sheridan and the family began Husman Brothers, Inc. construction company.  She loved the Lord and always trusted in Him. She was very active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and past president of the Lutheran Church Women.

Gerald D. Jennings  Age 62 of Sheridan, WY
Died Wednesday, September 27, 2000, on a ranch near Arvada where he was helping a friend
Born December 26, 1937, in Palmdale, CA
Parents - Fred & Laura Jennings
    He grew up and graduated from high school in Palmdale.  He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.  After the service, he returned to Palmdale where he worked farming, construction and as a mechanic.  He married Elizabeth Evenson in October, 17 1969, in Las Vegas, NV.  He lived for a time in Oregon where he became a chef and then later moved to Arizona working as a chef.  He also lived in Idaho and Colorado before coming to Sheridan in 1990.  He was a member of Eagles Lodge #186 and the Moose Lodge.  He loved playing Santa Claus for many years at the schools and for many organizations.  He enjoyed fishing, boating and helping his family and friends with projects or when they needed a helping hand.
