On Saturday, June 9, 2001, at the Heritage Acres nursing home in Hardin, Montana, our grandmother was reunited with her beloved daughter and husband in heaven. Jerry Belle Allen was born on November 26, 1910, in a log cabin near Hulett, Wyoming, to Robert and Erma Tate. She grew up on a ranch near Hulett until she was 15 years old, when she and her family moved to Sheridan, Wyoming with twenty head of horses, a wagon and two cars. It was a long hard trip, but Jerry Belle loved to tell the amazing story about making it. The family settled near Ranchester, where they trained and sold many horses, dealing mostly in pleasure, polo and remount horses. During her high school years, Jerry rode racehorses for some of the prominent horse breeders in the Big Horn area. She also became an accomplished trick rider.
Jerry Belle graduated from Sheridan High School and then took a year of normal training to become a teacher. She then went to work teaching at a one-room country school at Beckton, west of Sheridan, where she taught grades first through eighth. A reliable source says that the children at Beckton had run off many teachers before her, but Jerry Belle, in spite of her small size, was tough. She laid down the law the first day she was there by bringing her bullwhip and pistol, supposedly to discipline the horses that the kids had ridden to school. She must have gained the kids respect as well, because she had no problems in the five years she taught at Beckton.
While she was teaching there, she boarded with the Allens, where she met and fell in love with Howard Allen. They were married in 1935 at her Aunt and Uncles house in Sheridan. They lived in a small home in Sheridan while Jerry worked at saddle shops, where she applied her great skill in sewing, making shirts and leather outfits. She made the leather outfits that the Sheridan Rodeo Queens wore. Howard worked for the railroad. On August 13, 1943, their daughter Erma Lee was born, and four years later on February 20, 1947, their son Harry was born.
Soon after, the family moved to Otter Creek, Montana, to help Jerrys parents on the ranch. After the ranch was sold, Jerry and Howard bought twelve acres outside of Ashland, Montana, where they lived for sixteen years. Jerry worked at the Electric Cooperative and spent much of her time in her garden and yard there, while also finding time to play cards with her friends.
In 1983, Jerry and Howard moved back to Sheridan, where they took much pride in their yard and their grandchildren. Jerry Belle spent her time painting, tending to her yard, and spoiling her grandchildren. Howard died in 1996 after 61 years of marriage to Jerry Belle. Soon after, she moved to Harry and his wife Ellens ranch near Custer, Montana, then to a retirement home in Hardin. Jerry Belle died after leading an amazing life, dedicating most of it to her family. She was a wonderful person, a beautiful artist, a dang good card player and the best grandmother in the world.
She was preceded in death by her husband Howard, her daughter Erma and her sister Naomi Penton. She is survived by her son Harry and wife Ellen, and their children Cammie, Wailes, Brenda and Annie; her brother Bob Allen and wife Aileen, and their children Tommy, Mimi, Hardy and Dick; and her nephew Bill Penton and wife Anita, and their children.
Cremation has taken place, and graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2001, in the Sheridan Elks Cemetery with Kevin Jones officiating. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the donors choice in care of Mary Ann Rector, Ranchester State Bank, P.O. Box 789, Ranchester, Wyoming 82839.
John was born on May 27, 1948 to Olga (Tatikowa) and Arlsan Andrijanoff in Munich, Germany. He moved to the United States when he was three years old and grew up in New Jersey.

Marvin McClellan Barnes was born to Pearl R. Will and Fred E. Barnes. When
he was about 1 yr. old his family packed their belongings into a boxcar
and came to Gillette, WY by train. They lived in a homestead shack south
of Gillette. He quit school after the 8th grade. He served in the
Army from 1942-1945 and fought in WWII, receiving a ribbon for participation
in the European-African-Middle- Eastern Campaign, also a Good Conduct Ribbon.
He earned bronze stars in 4 combat zones: Algeria-French Morocco, Tunisia,
Sicilian, and Italian. Marvin received the Order of the Purple Heart, when
he was hit in the head by shrapnel. After the war he married Phyrne
L. Glover in Gillette and they had two children. He moved his family to
Thermopolis in 1948 where they owned a grocery store. In 1950 they came
to Sheridan. Marvin worked as a butcher, and then for the CB&Q Railroad.
He was divorced and in 1966 was remarried to Avril Swearingin. He retired
in 1980 from the Sheridan Post Office. Marvin enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing,
hunting and the Big Horn Mountains. His mother, father, brother Leo,
and wife preceded him in death. He is survived by his son Roger of Gulf
Breeze FL; daughter Cynthia Dennis of Sheridan; two sisters, Elsie Mapel
of Grand Junction, CO, and Mildred Howard of Memphis, TN ; a brother, Earl
of Salt Lake City, UT; various nieces, nephews; and puppy grandchildren,
Buster, Daisy and Bailey. Marvin was a member of the Sheridan Elks
Lodge 520 and American Legion Post #7. He enjoyed dancing at the Legion
and playing pool at the Elks Club. He played pool almost every day until
he lost his eyesight. He loved children, animals and Wyoming. He once said
"If any
more people move here,
I'm leaving!" but he never did. It was very difficult for him when he lost
his sight. He lost the ability to do the things he loved. We thank everyone
who has been a part of his long and wonderful life. He had so many stories
left to tell. He will be remembered as a quiet man, an honest hard worker
who had his own way of showing love. He was truly a great man. Our
family would appreciate donations, instead of flowers, to be sent to the
Marvin M. Barnes Memorial, First Interstate Bank, Attn.: Delphine Toner.
They will benefit Glaucoma research. Services are at Champion Ferries
Funeral Home, at 10:00 AM, April 14. Interment will follow in the Elks
Cemetery.

Born December 17, 1909, in Rion, Greece, he immigrated to this country when he was 9 years old. The Tom George family first settled in Buffalo, then in 1919 came to Sheridan and began operating a shoe shine parlor and hat cleaning business, called The New Method Shoe Shop. Later, Dan took over the business at 1 South Main and it became Dan’s Ranchwear. He was in business there until 1975, when he semi-retired. He also owned Sav-Mor and Bessie’s Bargains. The mural Dan commissioned painted on the original false front of the landmark building depicts the store when it was originally built by J.H. Conrad in 1885. It still stands today as a reminder of Dan’s business and civic life. It was his gift to the city, and in the spirit of preserving his gift, The Dan and Bessie George Mural Fund has been established.
He fell in love with Bessie Lewis of Lafayette, Colorado, whom he met while attending the University of Denver. They were married October 6, 1935.
In 1944, Dan was drafted by the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific on Tinian Island. His wife Bessie and their dear friend Tommy Poulos kept the business going in Dan’s absence. After the war, the business was expanded to include army surplus, western wear, workwear, tack, as well as his “hobby” -- shoe repair. A working man, he loved the working people. He whistled walking to work each day.
Dan was very active in the Methodist Church for sixty years and was also a founder of the local Greek Orthodox Church. He helped establish Sheridan’s first ice hockey league and worked tirelessly to promote the sport. He was also active in Lion’s Club, Kiwanis, American Legion, Kalif Shrine, and was member of Masonic Big Horn Mountain Lodge #43. His love of Sheridan was evident in his full involvement in the 75th Diamond Jubilee of the founding of the city.
His passions were his family, his work and his true friend, Nature. A fine fisherman, he was at peace quietly fishing the streams of the Big Horn Mountains. His cabin he christened “Friend of Solitude”.
In addition to his wife and four children, Dan is survived by his sons-in-law Terrance Poland and Jean-Claude Bosio, grandsons Erik Freestone, Rodrigo George, Demetrios George and Andraya Stamenkovic, granddaughter Flavia Jung, one great grandchild, sister-in-law Calliope George, brother-in-law Jay Richards, and his sister Peggy Rulli, the remaining founding family member.
The family would like to thank Kathy S., the caretakers and friends Eriko and Judy who helped to make his last years quality ones. To Leslie, Judy, Garret, Chris, the staff at the hospital and Dr. Chris Brown: you are a credit to your profession. And finally, thank you to all the people who have traded and continue to do so at Dan’s store.
Dan cared so much for preserving the history of Sheridan. The place he loved and served so well. A memorial fund has been established to pay for restoration and preservation of the mural at 1 South Main Street which is in need of work. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to The Dan and Bessie George Mural Fund, in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Helen DeCourcey Marshall was a caring woman who earned and deserved the respect of those who knew her. She was a kind person who modeled acceptance for all and freely gave of herself. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren found her a perceptive source of wisdom and steadiness. No one lacked for a place in her home or her heart.
Born in Nez Pearce, Idaho, on October 24, 1912, Helen lived her life in northern Wyoming. The daughter of Thomas DeCourcey and Magdalena DeCourcey Gilbertz, she was raised in her mother=s extended family of German immigrants on a ranch near Savageton, Wyoming. Her early years were spent in the country. Helen boarded in Nebraska for the first three years of high school, but graduated from Campbell County High School in Gillette in 1929. She then completed her normal training in order to teach. Helen=s first one room school position was near Savageton and she would sometimes reminisce, telling of stoking wood stoves, riding some distance to school on horseback and escaping occasionally to a country dance. Although she enjoyed the comforts of home and family in her later life, she felt herself to have been quite independent and adventuresome as a young woman.
Helen married Nolan Wilmot Marshall on April 7, 1934, in Hot Springs, South Dakota. From that 63 year union there were four children, Marilyn Kirkman, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Sandra Olsson, San Antonio, Texas; Linda Robbins, Sheridan, Wyoming; and Patrick Marshall, Spring Branch, Texas. Helen occupied herself with things of the home, she sewed for years, tended her lawn, flowers, and other people=s children. She remembered every family birthday and cared for her pets. She was a religious woman who prayed daily. She did not work outside the home, but assisted her husband, Nolan, with the Big Horn Music Service, a coin-operated jukebox/game enterprise serving Sheridan, Gillette, Buffalo and other small communities.
Helen joins her husband; her parents; her older brother, Cornelius; and younger sisters, Margaret Boyle and Leona Koers in eternal life. Her children survive her, as do her brother, Lawrence Gilbertz, her sister-in-law, Verna Ann Gilbertz, her brother-in-law, John Boyle, and her dear friends, Bob and Shirley Generaux. She has eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Please join the family in celebrating her life. Memorial services will be held at Holy Name Church, Sheridan, Wyoming, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 22, 2001, with Monsignor Eugene Sullivan officiating. Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2001, at the Marshall family plot in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Gillette with Father Karl Millis officiating. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Memorials may be given to a charity assisting the poor and needy.
