Funeral services for Bill Short, 84 year old Buffalo man who passed away early Saturday morning at the Johnson County Health Care Center, while surrounded by his family, will be held on Tuesday, October 29th at 10:00 a.m. from the Harness Funeral Home Chapel with Father Pete Johnson officiating. Interment will be in the Willow Grove Cemetery with military graveside services to follow the funeral. Donations in Mr. Short’s memory may be made to the Salvation Army in care of the Harness Funeral Home at 351 N. Adams in Buffalo.
William Thomas Short was born on June 21, 1929, to Mary and William L. Short in Emsworth, Pennsylvania. Bill grew up in Pittsburgh, PA and graduated from Emsworth High School where he excelled in music (trumpet), academics, and football. When Bill was 18 he joined the Army where he served his country proudly and was honorably discharged in 1949. Bill met the love of his life, LaVerne A. Kalisek, and they married on August 30, 1951 in Emsworth. Together they raised four children. Bill was a banker by profession and resided in the State of Florida for most of his career. He retired in 1993 and in 2005 Bill and Verne moved to Buffalo, Wyoming to be close to their youngest grandchildren. Bill was an active member of the Masons for 25 years and enjoyed boating, fishing, golf and football.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Verne Short of Buffalo; his four children. Linda Arnold of Billings, Montana, Tracy Furey and her husband, Ed, of Longwood, FL, William (Biff) Short and his wife Tracey of Buffalo, WY, and Jon Short and his wife Donna of St. Johns, FL. Bill and Verne have 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild.
