Thomas William O’Dell, 72, passed away Friday, October 23, 2009 at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Sheridan Wyoming.
Mr. O’Dell was born on March 24, 1937 to William and Leota (Cusick) O’Dell in Sheridan, Wyoming. He married Alberta Nelsen on July 27, 1957 in Torrington, Wyoming. Mr. O’Dell worked as an Engineer for Burlington Northern Railroad until he retired in 2004 in which he worked there for 48 years. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, going to the family cabin, farming, collecting trains, reading and his children and grandchildren.
Mr. O’Dell was enlisted in the Army on April 12, 1955 to April 2, 1962. He completed basic training at Fort Leonard on August 4, 1956. He served in the military for six years active duty including a tour in Germany. He then enlisted in the National Guard in 1961 as Surveyor Chief and retired in 1986 from WARNG.
Mr. O’Dell was preceded in death by his wife Alberta (Pete), his parents, Bill and Leota O’Dell and one grandson, Allen O’Dell. He is survived by his children, William "Andy" O’Dell, of Sheridan, Dianne O’Dell, Casper, WY, Susan and Scott Shackelford, of Gillette, WY, Thomas O’Dell, of Colorado Springs, CO, Theresa O’Dell, of Sheridan, WY, and David and Loni O’Dell of Ranchester, WY, and twenty one grandchildren and seven great grandchildren..
Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 8 on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Kane Funeral Home. with a Christian Wake Service starting at 7 PM with Father Rob Spaulding. Funeral Mass at 10:00 will be Friday, October 30, 2009 at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Rob Spaulding officiating. Internment will follow at the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Reception for family and friends to follow in the Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials for Mr. O’Dell may be made to the Holy Name School Administration and the Veteran’s Hospital.
