Stella Gorzalka, 87, of Sheridan passed away on November 27, 2012 at the Sheridan Manor.

Stella was born June 26, 1925 to Paul and Mary (Michalek) Bocek on Dutch Creek. She attended Middle Dutch Creek School. Stella married Tony Gorzalka on October 28, 1944 in the Saint Thomas Church at Monarch. The enjoyed 54 years of marriage. She lived on Dutch Creek with in sight of where she was born until 2003 when she moved to town.

Stella loved to garden and work in her flowers. She was a great cook and looked forward to feeding anyone who stopped by. Some favorite polish dishes included. Golumpki ( pigs in the blanket), Krapliki (prune donuts), Polieszniki (potato pancakes), Makowiak (poppy seed cake), Kolach, Nalesnike (cheese rolls). Christmas was especially important as it combined her strong faith and family. The Christmas eve dinner always included two candles, a crucifix, and a bowl containing grain and potatoes to give thanks for the years crops. The meal started with a prayer and holy bread. The meal had at least 13 different kinds of food to signify Jesus and the Apostles at the Last Supper. She successfully kept many family traditions alive.

Stella was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sisters Helen Rucki, Annie DeTavernier, her brothers Frank Bocek, Joseph Bocek, John Bocek and Paul Bocek. She is survived by a brother in law Alois Gorzalka; sisters in law Ann Gorzalka, Betty Bocek, Mary Buell, sons; Clifford (Beverly), Kenneth (Teresa), Lenard (Tammy); grandchildren Kevin (Nancy) Gorzalka, Vickie (Allen) Pullen, Allen Gorzalka, Christopher (Nichole) Gorzalka, Megan (Kurt) Russell, Audra Gorzalka; great grandchildren Ayden and Kaiah Pullen, Emily Gorzalka, Jasmine Gorzalka, Tenlie & Addlie Russell; and many nieces and nephews.

A Visitation for Stella will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. On Friday, November 30, 2012 at Kane Funeral Home.
Services for Stella will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Kane Funeral Home with Interment in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with Father Ron Stolcis officiating. A reception will follow in the Kane Reception Hall.
