Richard James Taberna

Richard James Taberna, 62, of Big Horn, passed away at his home on Monday, January 4, 2010.

Richard was born on September 20, 1947 in Sheridan, Wyoming to Joseph and Joan Taberna. He went to Holy Name Catholic School, graduated from Sheridan High School and attended Sheridan College and MSU in Missoula, Montana where he was a member of the ski team. Richard loved hunting, fishing, playing music, downhill skiing, riding horses and ranch work. He enjoyed being with friends and attending music festivals. He was a member of the original international cast of “Up With People” and played in bands professionally for many years. In addition, he was a personal representative/venue manager for Canadian singer Ian Tyson. Richard was a volunteer fireman for the Big Horn Fire Department for 22 years and was a member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) and an instructor for 35 years.

Survivors include his wife Paula Taberna; son Joseph Paul Taberna; daughters Magdalena Rose Taberna and Margaret Lee Taberna all of Big Horn, WY; half-sister Jackie Green; step-sisters Cinder Destafano, and Shannon Dahl all of Sheridan, and Jerry Lee Hershrud of Columbus MT.

Memorial Service will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 8, 2010 at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Ron Stolcis officiating.
