Richard Dau, 78, of Sheridan, passed away on Friday, October 26, 2012 at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper due to congestive heart failure following a head injury due to a fall on October 15, 2012. He was born in Sheridan, WY in 1934 to Henry and Marie (Arp) Dau. He had one brother, Gordon of Hot Springs, SD and two sisters; Jean Yentzer and Irene Jackson of Sheridan.
The Family moved to Yutan, NE when he was only four years old. He graduated from Yutan High in 1951 where he played basketball, was a boyscout, and volunteer firefighter. Following high school he joined the Army where he was a truck driver and a tank mechanic. After he was discharged he worked in construction and enjoyed farming. In 1955 he and his sister Irene moved to Sheridan where he worked in construction and then as a mechanic at Cook Ford and Valley Motor, owned R&C Laundry for six years, and retired from the ground maintenance crew at Sheridan College.
He married Carol Jackson Seay in 1971 and they were married for 41 years. He was active with Boy Scouts and was a Scoutmaster for several years earning his Wood badge and Silver Beaver awards. He belonged to the Order of Arrow. He also worked with 4-H and was a foster parent for 10 years and having 44 foster children and they adopted the first of the foster children and were the legal guardian of two of their granddaughters Michelle and Thea Jordan.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, cook outs, roasting marshmallows, and gardening. He had a great sense of humor. His little dog, Sassy, was his best friend.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter Peggy. He is survived by his wife Carol, three sons; Mike(Vivian) Seay of Casper, Mark (Stacy) Seay of California and Richard R. Dau of Sheridan, four daughters; Laurie (Bill) Schwabauer, Shannon (Fransco) D'Antoni, Tracy Crume of Sheridan and Emilie Jordan of Gillette. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; Pam (Steve) Rucki, Amber (Mark) Thomas, Dorothy Dau, Randy Crume of Sheridan, Nichole, Adam and Samantha Seay of California, four great grandchildren; Danyal and Kolter Rucki, Isabella and Noah Thomas of Sheridan.
Cremation has taken place and there will be a Memorial Service at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at the Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Phil Wold officiating. Inurnment will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2012 in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with full Military Honors.
