Naomi, “Ruth” Slater

Private family services for Ruth Slater, 88 year old Buffalo woman who passed away Wednesday, March 14 at the Johnson County Health Care Center in Buffalo, will be held by her family in Miles City, Montana. Donations in Mrs. Slater’s name may be made to the Johnson County Library or the St. Francis Animal Shelter in care of the Adams Funeral Home at 351 N. Adams in Buffalo.

Naomi Ruth Slater was born in Richmond, Virginia to Edna Lindsay. She learned to play bluegrass and country music by her uncle’s at the young age of six. This tradition was kept up by playing either her bass or rhythm guitars with her family until the time of her death. At the age of twenty three she married Leroy Slater of Miles City, Montana. Together they had five children. Ruth moved to Buffalo, Wy. in 1998 due to the untimely death of her oldest daughter. She remained here until the time of her passing. For the past fourteen years she loved walking on the walking path, feeding the geese, and reading her mystery books. Her loyalty was lovingly and faithfully displayed to her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter Lois Percifield Conkey (Ed), of Buffalo, Wy. Dr. Monte Slater (Gail) of Warren Robbins, Georgia. Brian Slater (Nannette) of Miles City, Montana, and Cindy Lawson (Doug) of Sun City, Ca. Eight grandchildren: Joe Hulet, Chanda Percifield, DeWayne Slater, Breanna and Cameron Slater, Tony Fisher, Nicolette and Dalton Lawson. Three great-grandchildren, Cutter and Paisley Hulet and Aspyn Edwards.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy, “Jiggs”, and one daughter, “Shirley Nelson”.
