Funeral services for Nancy Backer, 74 year old Kaycee woman who passed away Tuesday, November 5th at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, Wyoming will be held Saturday, November 16th at 2:00 p.m. at the Harness Funeral Home with Melissa Vandeberg officiating. Donations may be made in Nancy’s memory to the Hoofprints of the Past Museum in care of the Harness Funeral Home at 351 North Adams Avenue, Buffalo, Wyoming 82834.
Nancy was born in Ortonville, Minnesota to Charles and Winona Akins. She grew up and attended school in Milford, Iowa and graduated from Milford High School in 1956. After high school she attended Grandview Junior College in Iowa and then attended technical training in Minneapolis. She moved to Rawlins, Wyoming in 1959 and then to Casper before moving to Buffalo in 1964 where she worked at the Buffalo Medical Clinic as a Medical Technologist for 22 years. In 1973 Nancy married Bill Backer in Buffalo, Wyoming and they made their home in Kaycee, Wyoming. In 1986 she went to work for the Indian Health Services where her work took her to Arizona and Montana. In 2000 she retired and she and Bill continued to live in Kaycee until the time of her death.
She enjoyed hunting arrowheads, keeping in touch with dear friends and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Nancy is survived by her husband of forty years Bill Backer of Kaycee, Wyoming; her 2 daughters: Lisa James and her husband Tom of Charlotte, North Carolina; and Heather Pebbles and her husband Billy of Thermopolis, Wyoming; 4 grandchildren: Tiffany Gipson and her Husband Taurie of Charlotte, North Carolina; Amber James of Charlotte, North Carolina; Tyler Slagle and her husband Will of Thermopolis, Wyoming and Ryan Pebbles also of Thermopolis, Wyoming; five great-grandchildren: Trenton and Thomas Gipson of Charlotte, North Carolina; Will, Tell, and Cade Slagle of Thermopolis, Wyoming; and her beloved aunt Gwennie Klinefelter. She was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather.
