Micheal D. Semler, 75, of Sheridan, WY died Saturday, July 11, 2009, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.
Mike was born July 25, 1933, in Oxford, Colorado to Gus & Martha (Miller) Semler.
Mike grew up and attended schools in Ignacios, CO. He tended sheep for the Colorado Stock Assn. He came to Wyoming and worked at the Bear Claw Ranch. Mike married Marie Zingg on February 7, 1955 in Sheridan. He worked on several drilling rigs and then for Sheridan Iron Works. They moved to Durango, CO where he worked in the oil fields for five years until returning to Sheridan to manage Coffeen Texaco in 1967. Mike enjoyed stock car racing and drove car “39” for five years. He managed Coffeen Texaco for 30 years until he retired. After retirement, he worked a couple of jobs until going to work part time for the Country Bounty. Mike was a member of Elks Lodge #520 and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, snow machining, yard work and helping his kids with their cars. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren.
Mike was preceded in death his parents, son Michael in 1959 and three brothers.
Mike is survived by his wife Marie of Sheridan; son Jim of Gillette, WY; daughters Gail Trask and Jody Vance both of Custer, SD; sister Betty Bishop of Cimarron, Kansas; six grandchildren and one great grandson.
Funeral service will be 2:00pm on Wednesday (July 15th) from Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas Goodwin officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
