Kathryn Holt, 69, of Buffalo, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 5, 2012.
Kathryn was born in Portland, Oregon on October 2, 1942 to Tom and Hilda (Haubrick) King. She was raised and graduated High School in Emmetsburg, Iowa. She then attended the University of Wyoming and graduated with a teaching degree. She taught English for twenty-two years at the Johnson County School District. After retiring she worked as a writer for the Buffalo Bulletin and also worked at the Jim Gatchell Museum. She was very active in the community and served on many local boards including the Johnson County School Board and the City of Buffalo Pool Board. She was also elected and served as a City of Buffalo Councilwomen.
Kathryn loved the City of Buffalo and its people and was very passionate about the community. She was instrumental in preserving and maintaining the Buffalo Outdoor Pool to ensure its enjoyment for future generations. She loved to travel and was particularly fond of the ocean.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her daughter; Heather (Holt) Eklund of Buffalo, two sons; Thomas Holt of Buffalo and Robert Holt of Denver, CO; two sisters; Kristin Drewes of Bisbee, AZ and Candace Wheeler of Hilo, HI; and seven grandchildren; Kathryn and Hazel Eklund, Olivia and Raymond Holt, and Wilbur, Nathan, and Jack Holt.
A memorial service for Kathryn will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 18, 2012 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Vernon Strickland officiating. A reception will follow at the church.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the City of Buffalo Charitable Foundation for the benefit of the Buffalo Outdoor Pool.
