Joseph Owen Esterl, 78, of Sheridan, WY died February 23, 2010 in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.
Mr. Esterl was born at home on Heath Avenue in the Bronx, New York City, on February 6, 1931, to Joseph & Mary (McConnell) Esterl, the youngest of three children.
He lived with his parents and two older sisters in the Bronx and Williamsburg, Brooklyn before the family moved to Flushing, Queens, New York City in 1936. He attended Saint Mary’s School and Flushing High School in Flushing. He served a brief period in the United States Navy in the late 1940’s. He worked for several years with his father in the early to middle 1950’s on the New York Central/Twentieth Century Limited railroad line. He worked in various other jobs for several years. Mr. Esterl came to Buffalo, WY in the 1970’s and later moved into Sheridan. Mr. Esterl lived in various health care facilities run by the Veterans Administration since the early-mid 1980’s. Mr. Esterl never married and had no children.
Mr. Esterl was preceded in death by his parents; his two sisters; several other relatives.
Mr. Esterl is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins in New York.
Viewing will be 11:00am until 1:00pm on Friday (Feb. 26th) from Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Graveside service will be 2:00pm on Friday in Mount Hope Cemetery, Big Horn, WY with Father Ronald Stolcis officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
