Grace Christler, 90, of Sheridan, WY died on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at home. She went to be with her lord while surrounded by her loving family at the time of her death.
Grace was born on December 14, 1923 to Troy M. and Lola Kimmel Brown in Sheridan, WY. Her step-father Floyd Hoyt with her mom raised her. During her growing-up years she spent many happy hours on her grandparents homestead at the Kimmel Ranch. She experienced the depression era first-hand and had many stories to relate, one of which was herding turkeys and her siblings on their ranch at Wyola.
In 1939 Grace was married to her high school sweetheart, Elmer Stone, who was tragically killed in 1943. In 1948 she was married to V.N. Klinkhammer. They made their home in Buffalo, WY where they raised their son Vincent Klinkhammer. In June 1959 Grace married Dean Christler. They had one daughter, Tammy.
Taking care of people was Grace’s ‘forte, especially her loved ones. She worked as a nurse at the Reynold’s Home, Sheridan Memorial Hospital and the Sheridan V.A. Hospital from which she retired in 1985. She concluded her nursing career through tender care to her own mother for several years.
Grace loved her family foremost and showed concern for everyone around her. She loved her lord, church family and her many friends. Her pets Jenny and Molly were especially dear to her.
Grace is survived by her husband Dean; her son Vince Klinkhammer and her daughter Tammy & (Mike) Teigen; her grandchildren Vanessa & (Joel) Vaziri-Shires; Dawna; Aaron; Michael and Tina. She leaves her siblings, Donna Miller; Rita (Wink) Lund; Floyd (Judy) Hoyt; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
Viewing will be 11:00am until 3:00pm on Monday (Feb 3rd) from Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 1:00pm on Tuesday from First Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Doolin officiating. Interment will be in Quiet Rest Cemetery near Story, WY. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
