Funeral services for George Hibler, 91 year old Story resident who passed away Monday at the Sheridan Manor, will be held Friday, January 20th at 2:00 p.m. from the Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with Reverend Tom Saur officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. from the funeral home chapel in Buffalo. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery with the VFW and American Legion in charge of military graveside rites. Donations in Mr. Hibler’s memory may be made to the VFW in Buffalo in care of the Adams Funeral Home at 351 N. Adams in Buffalo.

George Robert Hibler was born on October 31, 1920 in Ashland, Idaho to Vere and Helen Hibler. He moved to Buffalo with his family at the age of 2 and lived on a ranch south of town on Crazy Woman Creek. He attended country schools and attended Buffalo High School where he graduated with the class of 1940. After high school he joined the U.S. Military and served in the U.S. Army during WWII in Alaska and later in the South Pacific. After the war he moved back to Buffalo. He was married on July 5th, 1948 in Red Lodge, Montana to Ester Hakert and they made their home in Buffalo. George was a heavy equipment operator for Lusher Construction for many years and helped build many of the reservoirs in Sheridan and Johnson County. He spent some time working as a logger in the Big Horn Mountains and in 1974 they moved to Story and Mr. Hibler worked for Decker Coal where he worked until his retirement in 1984. Ester passed away in July of 1998 and George continued living in Story until ill health forced him to move into Sheridan Manor where he lived for the past year. George was an avid fisherman and loved spending time on the Elsom Ranch fishing for trout.

George is survived by one step-son Andrew Hakert and his wife Yogi of Riverton, Wyoming; four grandchildren, Lamar Selig and his wife Suzi of Sheridan, Dean Hakert and his wife Lupe in Nebraska, Dawn Phfister and her husband Lance of Riverton, Wyoming and Amanda Vroman also of Riverton ; several great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two daughters and one grandson Marty Selig.
