Sheridan resident Florence Birchby, 85, passed away on Monday, Septmeber 14, 2009 at Westview Health Care Center.
Born July 16, 1924 in Hingham, Massachusetts to George and Florence (Manell) Bibby, she married James Cook Birchby in Walloston, Mass. on August 21, 1943. They moved to Sheridan the same year and remained here since then. Florence helped operate the Western Hotel, which was owned by her husband, and later worked as an insurance clerk at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan. She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, and enjoyed participating in Girl Scouts and as a Red Cross Grey Lady. She was an avid reader and never met a stranger. She was an accomplished artist, knitter, and musician.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sisters Marjorie Ferrigno and Dorothy Cornelius. She is survived by daughters Patricia Boles, Nancy Davis, and Virginia Patrick, sisters Marian Durling, Constance Rossini, and Carol Hasse, and brothers James Bibby and George Bibby Jr., six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library, 335 W. Alger, Sheridan WY 82801, in Florence Birchby’s name.
Cremation has taken place and a private family memorial service has been planned for a later date.
