Funeral services for Ernestine Ward, 83 year old Buffalo woman who passed away suddenly Friday evening at her home in Buffalo, will be held Tuesday December 24th at 10:00 a.m. from the Harness Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with Pastor Pete Friese officiating. Visitation will be held from the funeral home chapel on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Donations in Ernestine’s memory may be made to Calvary Chapel Buffalo in care of the Harness Funeral Home at 351 N. Adams in Buffalo.
Doris Ernestine Ward was born on December 10, 1930 in Tickfaw, Louisiana to Ernest and Izetta Johnson. She grew up and went to school in Independence, Louisiana and graduated from Independence High School in 1948. After high school she went to work for the State Welfare Department in Hammond, Louisiana. She was married on December 15th, 1952 in Hammond to James Douglas Ward and they made their home in Hammond. In 1968 they moved to Thermopolis, Wyoming where she worked in the school administration office. In 1973 the family moved to Cody where she worked at the Grace Baptist School. They lived in Cody until 1987 when they moved to Monticello, Mississippi to care for their aging parents. In 1993 they moved to Buffalo where she lived until the time of her death.
She was a very involved member of Calvary Chapel Buffalo and she spent many hours at the Amie Holt Care Center helping others. Ernestine never knew a stranger, and was always welcoming others into her home, a trait she bestowed on her children. She was an accomplished seamstress; she enjoyed cooking and loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband Douglas Ward of Buffalo; five daughters, Andrea Leibee and her husband Mike of Buffalo; Yvette Seward and her husband David of Cody, Wyoming, Denise Oliverius of Buffalo, Marchel Kelley of Buffalo, and Celeste Friese and her husband Pete of Buffalo; two sisters, Margie Edwards of Hammond, Louisiana and Barbra Ann Wittie of Robert, Louisiana; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
