Emogene Johnson

Emogene Johnson, 93, of Sheridan, WY died Thursday, January 8, 2008, in her Sheridan home.

Emogene was born May 18, 1915, in Arnold, Nebraska, to Harry & Dora (Moffitt) Leland.

Emogene’s mother died when she was six years old and she was raised by an aunt, grandmother and later a step mom.  She came to Sheridan in 1928 and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1933.  She married Knute Holger Johnson in 1936 in the Episcopal Church in Sheridan.  She was a homemaker and kept books for there her husband’s construction company.  Emogene was a member of the Big Goose Community Women’s Club and the Lower Big Goose Homemakers.  An active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, she taught Sunday school for 25 years, was a member of the Prayer Chain, Jail Ministry, Women’s Groups and taught Bible class for senior citizens.  Emogene loved to read, write letters and pray for other people.  She always had a sweet smile on her face and a funny sense of humor but her greatest love in life was giving to others and sharing Jesus’ love.

Emogene was preceded in death by two sisters Eco Billings and Iris Hart; one brother John Leland; one granddaughter; one great granddaughter and her husband. Emogene is survived by her sons Larry and Dean of Sheridan, Knute of Gillette, WY and Steven of Glen Rock, WY; daughters Penelope Funkhouser of Colorado Springs, CO, Emmy Lou Gies of Casper, WY; twenty five grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 10:00am on Tuesday (Jan. 13th) from Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Phil Wold officiating.  Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.  Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
