Donovan D. McKennan, 78, of Sheridan, WY, died Tuesday, May 19, 2009 in Sheridan Manor.
Don was a Wyoming native and enjoyed spending time in the Big Horn Mountains fishing and camping. He was a creative artist—painting portraits or landscapes, carving wood or carpentry.
Don proudly served 2 tours of duty in Korea in the 2nd Infantry Division from 1948 to 1957 and settled back in Sheridan.
He married Billie Jo Ross in 1959 and later divorced. He was employed at the Sheridan V. A. Hospital, Meade Creek Ranch and the WYO Theatre, and later retired.
Don was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel McKennan, and sister, Betty Carter, and his son, Terry D. McKennan.
He is survived by two daughters, Kelly Long, of Sheridan, WY, and Tamara Perrin, of Loveland, CO; stepson, Billy Maddox, of Gardner, MT, two sisters, Mary (Jim) Harrison, of Seattle, WA, and Wilma Parker, of Seattle, WA; 6 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His family will miss his humor, philosophical laments and his rugged charm.
Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held 2:00 P. M. Tuesday, May 26, 2009 in the Sheridan V. A. Chapel, 1989 Fort Road with Chaplain Harden Haeffner officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
