Sheridan resident Delores "Dee" Black, 81, passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan.
Born March 19th, 1928 in Ortonville, Minnesota to Harold and Mabel Heinzen, Delores attended grade school there and in Bellingham, Minnesota where she was confirmed on May 17, 1942 at St. Peters Lutheran Church. She graduated high school in 1946 in Howard Lake, MN. In 1956 she wed Wally Black with whom she had two children. They later divorced. She moved to Buffalo, MN in 1969 where she eventually worked for Wright County Human Services for over 15 years, finally retiring in 1984. During this time she worked with mentally challenged youth and the Big Sisters organization. She was a member of the Lions Club and was voted "Lioness of the Year, 1981-1982" in Buffalo, MN. Delores also enjoyed bowling, crocheting and playing softball and bingo. After her retirement she moved to Sheridan and became active in the Red Hats and the Missionary Guild at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was a founding member of the Kitchen Klatters Band.
Dee is survived by daughter Cathy Black of Sheridan and son David Black of Cheyenne, WY. She is also survived by 3 brothers Ken Heinzen of Minnetonka, MN, Jerry Heinzen of Wayzata, MN, and Ray Heinzen of New Hope, MN and sister Barb Heinzen of Richfield, MN. She also leaves behind 2 grandchildren, Eric Dvorak and Jamie Smith and great-granddaughter Avery Smith.
A celebration of life will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2009. A gathering of friends and family will be held at the church following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the Martin Luther Grammar School, 1300 West 5th Street, Sheridan WY 82801.
