Charles R. Walters Sr., 88 of Sheridan, Wyoming passed away Monday, January 7th, 2013 at Advanced Care Hospital of Montana, in Billings, Montana. Charles (Chuck) was born on March 28th 1924 in St. Paul Minnesota, to August and Minnie Walters. The family later moved to Marshfield, Wisconsin where he graduated from high school in 1942. Following graduation Chuck entered the Army and served our country during World War II. After entering the service on April 19th 1943, Chuck was assigned duty in the Pacific where he was part of the 595th Aircraft Warning Battalion Company C. He was part of the New Guinea, Southern Philippines’ (Liberation) Luzon campaigns. He was awarded the Pacific Theatre Ribbon, two Bronze stars and was honorably discharged on January 17th, 1946.
After his discharge Chuck began working for AT&T Mountain Bell Telephone Company as a cable repairman, first in Colorado and southern Wyoming and eventually being transferred to Sheridan where he met and married Mary Lou Brandstetter on February 18th, 1956, they would have celebrated their fifty-seventh wedding anniversary this February. Chuck retired from Mountain Bell in 1980 after thirty-seven years. Chuck was a member of the Pioneers of America and American Legion.
Chuck enjoyed reading, refinishing and repairing furniture, gardening, playing cards, vacationing, doing crossword puzzles, watching sports, Trooper baseball and especially fishing on the Tongue River. He mostly enjoyed being a part of his children and grandchildren’s lives while they were growing up; attending all of their activities, well into their adulthood. Chuck enjoyed taking the neighbor kids sledding behind the old Comet and participating in some of their antics that included the annual Christmas bonfire and 4th of July firework battles.
His parents and brother John proceeded him in death .He is survived by his wife Mary Lou of 57 years, brother Donald of California, sons Chuck Jr., Curt, John and daughter Cathryn all of Sheridan, Gary Hudspeth (Kathy)of Council Bluffs Iowa . Grandsons Robert Walters, Logan and Dillon Hudspeth, Granddaughter Christina Walters McGrath (Dan) and Great Granddaughter Malli of Seattle, Sisters in law Marilyn Edwards (Drake),Walline Johnson(Marvin)of Sheridan, Brother in law Robert Brandstetter (Lavada) of Golden, CO. and many nephews and nieces mostly of Sheridan
Cremation has taken place and a family celebration of life will be held later this summer. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the American Legion Trooper Baseball program, 137 N. Brooks St. Sheridan, Wyoming 82801.
